    The Rape of Nanking
    The Rape of Nanking was a six week long scrimage in which the Japanese invaded the Chinese capital of Nanking and began slaughtering and raping men, women, and children. they also distributed narcotics to any of the surviving civilians that led to addiction issues and the development of opium dens.   • Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact

    Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact
    The Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact, otherwise known as the German-Soviet Nonaggression pact took place on August 23rd of 1939 and formaly stated that neither one of the two nations would use any form of military action against each other for the duration of 10 years.     On June 14th of 1940, the people of Paris were met with a not-so-pleasant surprise when the German troops entered into the city. The fall of France's capital was a direct result from the long and strenuous fighting that was taking place prior.     Operation Barbarossa was the massivve invsion of the Soviet Union by what was considered the brightest and the best of the German forces. this war was the crucial turning point in the war because its failure would result in Germany fighting a war on two fronts, Hitler underestimated the Soviet forces and was taken by surprise by the russian winter. this resulted in a soviet victory.     Pearl Harbor
    on the morning of December 7th, over a hundred Japanese fighter planes began to bomb the naval port of Pearl Harbor. in the attack that lasted for more than two hours, Japan mangaed to destroy 20 naval vessels, 8 battleships, 300 airplanes, and claimed more than 2000 lives. this attack was prompted due to growing tensions between the U.S. and Japan that were built up over many years Pearl Harbor

    after the surrender of the Bataan Peninsula by U.S. forces to the Japanese, 75,000 Filipino and American troops who occupied the area were forced to take a 65-mile long march to imprisonment camps.     Taking place six months after the attack on pearl harbor, American troops defeated the Japanese in the naval battle known as the Battle of Midway. Thanks to advances in radar and sonar, americans were able to counter Japanese advances and severely damage Japans naval fleet. this allowed for American troops to go on the offensive.     starting on december 16th and ending on Janurary 16th of 1944-45, the battle of the bulge occurred and was a counteroffensive strike by German forces that was meant to split the Allied troops.   • Liberation of Concentration Camps

    Liberation of Concentration Camps
    on January 27th 1945, members of the Red Army(soviet forces) stormed into the concentration camp of Auschwitz, which was the largest and the last of the camps still operating, and liberated it. this meant the freedom of all the prisoners inside and it marked the end to the concentration camps as the end of the war edged closer.     Battle of Iwo Jima
    the Battle of Iwo Jima took place on Febuary 19th between American and Japanese forces. Iwo Jima is one of the main islands close to the Japanese coast so it provided one of the perfect places for American troops to try and establish a base. the American troops invaded the island by sea and fought for a month against Japanese troops in elaborate cave systems and dug-outs.     Battle of Okinawa
    the Battle of Okinawa was the last and arguably the biggest pacific island battle of World War two. The battle was launched by American troops as a means of securing one of the vital air bases needed to invade Japan. the entire fuede lasted for roughly 82 days and by the end of the fighting, the U.S. had suffered 65,000 casualties and more than 12,000 deaths, while Japan suffered 77,000.     On May 8th of 1945, American and British troops as well as states celebrated what is known as Victory in Europe Day. cities in both of the nations started putting out flags and having celebrations to commemorate the defeat of the Nazi war machine. VE Day
  • Dropping of the Atomic Bombs

    Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
    On August 6th and August 9th, the U.S. dropped two atomic bombs onto the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. these bombing were excited from the Japanese vow to keep up fighting in the pacific even though Germany had already surrendered and their chances of winning the war were miniscule at best. In total the bombs took 120,000 lives immediately and caused areas of radiation. atomic bombings

    VJ Day, otherwise known as Victory over Japan day was a celebration much like VE Day in which people began celebrating over the Japanese's unconditional surrender to U.S. troops following the dropping of the atomic bombs. Japans surrender took several more months than that of the Germans and with it, it brought an official end to War World Two. VJ Day
