  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
    In this court case, Brown vs. Board of Eduction, Brown argued that segregation in schools was not right. Before this, whites and blacks went to different schools and the environments were very different. After this case, it lead to desegration in schools and later desegregation in other public places.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    Rosa Parks is a prominet lady during the Civil Rights movement. The largest thing known today that was done by her was sitting in a bus seat when a white man commanded her to stand and let him have her seat. She objected to getting up and was arrested just for not getting out of the seat. This is known as the spark of the movement.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    Nine black students were blocked from entering the white school on orders of Mississippi's governor. But, President Eisenhower sent federal troops to become their protection against the police and violent people. Eisenhower fought greatly for the blacks in following years to come also. It also helped with the desegregation in the schools.
  • Sit-Ins

    Sit-Ins
    sit-ins were a form of protest the African Americans used during the Civil Rights movement. Before this, whites and blacks were separated in resturaunts and could not sit in the same area. In these sit-ins blacks would sit in white peoples spots. This lead to more and more uprise from the blacks to further the movement.

    Martin Luther King Jr. speech and life
    Martin Luther King was a very prominant man in fighting for African American rights. He established the Southern Christian Leadership conference which was a nonviolent but strong organization. He also delivered his famous "I Have A Dream Speech" during the March on Washington. His impact on the rest of the Civil Rights movement was tremendous in giving blacks a voice.

    This bill passed stated that there would be equal housing available for anyone no matter their race, creed, or national orgin. This gave hope to all people that living freely was starting to happen in America.

    Martin Luther, the leader of SCLC was shot and killed at his motel room in Memphis, Tenn. This shook Americans and showed us nobody is immune to violence. James Ray was covicted of this crime.

    Photos from Birmingham, Alabama
    These photos, through newspapers, showed the rest of America how blacks were being treated in southern states such as Mississippi. This lead to an uprise from the northern states and made them speak up for the blacks and that it was not the right thing to do.
