  • French and Indian War Begins

    French and Indian War Begins

    -Washington was sent over the Ohio River Valley to protect British colonists.
    -First shots fired near Fort Duquesne by the French.
    -Washington forced to surrender on the same day.
  • French and Indian War Ends

    French and Indian War Ends

    -The Treaty of Paris had officially marked the end of the French and Indian War.
    -There would be no more French power in all of North America, although French settlers could stay.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763

    -The Proclamation of 1763 would not allow colonists to settle beyond the Appalachian Mountains.
    -This was enacted in hopes of setting disputes with Native Americans.
    -Many colonists still ignored this proclamation and settled their anyways.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act

    -Passed by Prime Minister George Grenville.
    -Required that stamps be affixed to documents as proof of payment.
    -Both commercial and legal documents needed to have a stamp
    -Appealed in 1766 due to uproar from colonists.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre

    -60 colonists taunted 10 redcoats by clubbing them as well as throwing rock.
    -11 colonists were killed in this exchange.
    -Event used as revolutionary propaganda to fuel colonial anger against Britain.
