    Athens, Greece created the first direct democracy around 500BC and ended at 404BC.Any citizen could speak and vote in the assembly with a simple show of hands. This influenced the constitution because it was the first actual democracy.

    The Magna Carta was a charter That King John of England signed. It reduced his monarch power which allowed the formation of a parliament. This influenced America because it created a basis for English citizens rights.
  • Mayflower Compact

    It was a social contract 'that was the first written document that established a government in America. It was created by the pilgrims in the Americas to escape persecution and imprisonment by the king.
  • Thomas Hobbes(Leviathan)

    The book talks about structure of society and government. It is one of the most influental examples of the social contract theory.Hobbes also talked about having a strong undivided government could prevent problems and issues like the American civil war.

  • Cesare Beccaria ( On Crime and Punishment)

    Beccaria was an Italian criminologist and economist. In his book, he argued that the government should work to prevent crime, rewarding good behavior. This influenced America by help forming the criminal justice system.

    The first Continental Congress met in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia. The first congress came together to talk about what is happening and their responce to the acts of the british. Each representative from each colony came to the meeting.
