Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower Compact lead to establish our representative governing system. It was signed by about 40 men on a ship. -
Thomas Hobbes
Hobbes believed in social contract. He thought it was very important to society and actually still is in our society today. -
John Locke
John Locke believed in a representative government. This means citizens elect people to represent them. -
English Bill of Rights
The English Bill of Rights was written to limit the powers of monarchs. Over the years, monarchs had began to over power parliament. -
Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Rousseau believed in a government freely formed by the people. He believed the people should be able to have a government they trusted and chose themselves. -
Baron de Montesquieu
Montesquieu believed in the seperation of powers. He believed that power sould be in the hands of several different groups and not just one person or one group of people. -
Voltaire
Volatire believed in freedom of speech. He strongly thought that if people disagree, they should have a say in what they believe. -
Cesare Beccaria
He was known for things about crimes and punishment for those crimes. -
First Continental Congress
They met in Phihlidelphia. They all thought the King and Parliament needed to realize what they were doing to the citizens. -
Second Continental Congress
They met from te first congress to now. Then, the American Revolutionary War was a resolution. -
Declaration of Independence
This gained Americas freedom. It was a big deal because people were so locked up and had so many things they couldn't do and this gave them the rights we still have today. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation took away most power of the Central Government. The Central Government no longer had power over the states or the citizens. -
Treaty of Paris
This document officially ended the American Revolutionary War. It was signed by the people of paris and eventually by us. -
Shay's Rebellion
This was several protests against government. Farmers were protesting because of the enforcing of taxes. -
Constiutional Convention
Delegates came to discuss different problems that were occuring. They needed to come to and agreement about how to solve these issues.
