Hitler is appointed as chancellor of Germany by Paul von Hindenburg. -
Germany Left the League of Nations

Reichstag Fire
The Reichstag caught on fire and Hitler blamed the communist for it. Taking advantage of the commotion, he suspended civil liberties and established the death penalty. He also banned the free press, and the meetings of socialists and communists. -
The Night of the Long Knives
Hitler ordered the murder of Ernst Röhm, the leader of the SA, and other 300 important members. Hitler felt that the SA was gaining much political power. -
Hindenburg Dies
Hitler becomes Führer of Germany. He also changes the political system from the Weimar Republic to the Third Reich. -
The Nuremberg Laws
The Nuremberg Laws were antisemitic laws in Nazi Germany introduced at the annual Nuremberg Rally of the Nazi Party. -
Remilitarization of the Rhineland
German military forces entered the Rhineland. This was significant because it violated the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. -
The Anschluss
The Anschluss was the occupation and annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany. -
Munich Pact
The Munich Pact was an agreement permitting the Nazi German annexation of Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland. -
Nazi-Soviet Pact
In April 1939, Russia, Britain and France met to form an alliance to defend Poland - but by August 1939, Russia had swapped sides and made a pact with Germany! Through the Nazi-Soviet Pact, Stalin and Hitler agreed not to go to war with each other and to split Poland between them. -

The Invasion of Poland was an invasion by Germany, the Soviet Union, and a small Slovak contingent that marked the start of World War II. -
