    Esther Reed was born in London, England.Her family( Benjiman Franklin and his wife) called her "hettie" and she loved books very much. At the age of 23 she married Joseph Reed.

    Even though she was from English decent she still believed in the revolutionary war because she thought it was fair. She wanted to do whatever she could to help.

    Esther had an idea to help soldiers in the war. She rounded up a healpful group of women who would soon be doing something that was so helpful and cheerful to soldiers.
  • Jackets for Soldiers.

    Jackets for Soldiers.
    The women got together and started sewing together jackets for the soldiers because it was very cold were they were fighting. The ladies added their own personal touch by sewing their names on the collar.
  • The reward

    Her sweaters began to be what some soldiers looked foward to. She made 2,220 sweaters total. Every women who made a sweater would sew their name on to the sweater for a personal touch.

    At the age of 34 Esther Reed did not live to see her legacy grow. She is remembered in the hearts of the soldiers who did wear her jackets.
