Inspired by the home videos her father took, Erin worked to learn the computer skills to create a slide show of Christmas memories of her family. On Christmas morning, her family sat down to enjoy the slideshow and commend Erin on her hard work. In Erikson's fourth stage, industry versus inferiority, the crisis is between acquiring skills of the culture with confidence and inferiority that comes with being unsuccessful. Erin, in this case, experienced the confidence with acquiring a new skill.

Erin and Jacob met in college. Though she knew that Jacob had a job in Alaska after college, Erin still wanted to pursue a committed relationship and move with Jacob. They are now married and live each day with the comfort and security that comes with a committed relationship. In Erikson's sixth stage, intimacy versus isolation, there is a conflict in risking one's identity to develop an intimate relationship and the isolation that comes with not doing so.

After spending her early 20s working a career that did not hold much meaning for her, Erin decided to pursue a career in healthcare because she feels that she can contribute to society best in this setting. Erikson's generativity versus stagnation, the conflict is between contributing to the wellbeing of the next generation through caring for others and a focus on their own needs, ending in stagnation.
