Three Event Timeline (Megan)

  • First Day Of High School: Identity v. Identity Confusion

First Day Of High School: Identity v. Identity Confusion
Megan (age 14) is about to enter a place where she is going to become confident in who she is. Megan might be feeling a bit out of place and not sure if she will fit in with the proper crowds. In Erikson's fifth stage, identity versus identity confusion, the crisis is the development of becoming confident in who they are (identity) -- and not fall into the depths of peer pressure becoming someone that they are not (identity confusion).
  • Megan's decision to marry Blake: Intimacy v. Isolation

Megan's decision to marry Blake: Intimacy v. Isolation
Megan (age 24) and Blake decide to spend the rest of their lives together and each other and be able to fuse together their identities. In Erikson's sixth stage, Intimacy versus Isolation, the crisis is the bond being shared by two young adults (intimacy) - versus the vulnerability of ending up alone without a intimate relationship (isolation).
  • Megan's Last Moments: Ego Integrity v. Despair

Megan's Last Moments: Ego Integrity v. Despair
Megan has passed away surrounded by her husband of 46 years and all four of her children. She worked hard as a registered nurse for 30 years and help provide for her family -- she did have some regrets. In Erikson's eight stage, ego integrity v. despair, the crisis is between feeling good about how their life was (ego integrity) and having some regrets of how to make lives more worthwhile (despair).
