Erikson Timeline

  • Trust vs. Mistrust

Danielle is 1 year old. She learned to trust her mother when she fed Danielle, bathed her, and made sure that she knew her mother loved her. Danielle is in Erikson's first stage, trust vs. mistrust, where an infant establishes whether or not to trust depending on how well their caretaker provides for them.
  • Identity vs. Role Confusion

Danielle is 16 years old. She has recently been conflicted between how she'd like to express herself through her appearance. She could either wear a tee and jeans or a dress and curled hair. She knows that curling her hair and picking out a dress every day is not her style, so she wears any tee she feels comfortable in. Erikson's 5th stage, identity vs. role confusion, where teens navigate their way through puberty and decide on who they'd like to be. (this is one aspect of that)
  • Intimacy vs. Isolation

Danielle is 32 years old. She meets a man named Robert whom she adores. The couple decide to get married and start a family together. This is Erikson's 6th stage, intimacy vs. isolation, where adults decide whether or not they would like to be in a life-long committed relationship or continue through life without a romantic companion.
