Avery was a toddler when her parents decided that day to allow her to choose what food she wanted to eat. Now that she can use her words to express her feelings, her parents give her two options for each meal and allow her to pick between them. This aligns with Erikson's second stage autonomy vs. self doubt. It describes how children who are allowed to make choices develop a healthy sense of autonomy.

Avery had met the man of her dreams in college and a few years later they decided to get married. They wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. This is Erikson's sixth stage, intimacy vs. isolation. This stage usually happens in early adulthood and involves someone taking the risk of entering a committed relationship such as marriage.

This day was Avery's last day on Earth and has came to terms with the fact that she was dying. She gave everyone her love and apologized to the people she wanted to so that she could die happy and forgive herself and others. This is Erikson's eighth stage, ego integrity vs. despair. This is the stage when someone looks back on their life and has accepted all the good and bad.
