    Named the first and the bloodiest war in history. Seven ( soon to be eleven ) southern slave states wanted to be withdrawn from the U.S and become confederate states. The war ended when the confederate armies surrounded and their government collapsed.
    Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. This piece of paper declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and hence forward shall be free." So its stating that all slaves are free

    KKK ( Klu Kluck Klan ) Functioned as a loosely organized group of political and social terrorists. The klans goals included the political defeat of the republican arty and the maintenance of absolute white supremacy in response to new gained civil and political rights by southern blacks after the civil war.
    Jim Crow Laws - Legalized segregation between blacks and whites.

    13 Amendment- Abolished slavery
    14 Amendment- Defining national citizenship and forbidding sates to restrict the basic rights of citizens or other persons
    15 Amendment- Prohibits the federal and state gov. from denying a citizen to vote based on "race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

    Lusitania- Was a British ocean liner that was sunk by a German submarine. This caused a big diplomatic uproar; it was a older of the blue riband.
    Zimmerman Telegram- Internal diplomatic communication issued from the German foreign office in Jan. 1917 that proposed a military alliance between Germany and Mexico in the event of the U.S entering WW1 against Germany

    League of Nation- Intergovernmental organization found Jan. 10, 1920, designed to enforce the treaty of Versailles and the other peace agreements that concluded World War 1.

    October 29, 1929, also known as black Tuesday; investors traded 16 millions shares on the New York stock exchange in one day. Billions of dollars were lost, wiping out thousands on investors.

    Civil Right Movement

    Rosa Parks- Rosa was an African American Civil Rights activist whom the U.S Congress called the "First lady of civil rights" and "The mother of the freedom movement." She is known for not giving up her seat in the front of the bus to a white man. She was called names by the bus driver and police was called. She sat in jail for that.

    Civil Right Movement

    Brown V. Board of Education- In 1954, most of the U.S had racially segregated schools. In the 1950's, NAACP lawyers brought a class action lawsuit on behalf of black children and their families, seeking court orders to compel school districts to let blacks attend white public schools.
    Sit Ins- This all started when 4 African American students walked into a business that served whites only, ordered coffee and sat quietly and waited to be served.

    Sit Ins- They were simple: Sit quietly and wait to be served. 9/10 times most were threatened and beaten by local white customers and the blacks would just ball up on the floor and take the punishment. Police would arrest the blacks and another group of blacks would walk in and continue the sit in.

    and resistance and provide leadership of the African American Civil Rights Movement. This man was put through so much; talked about, threatened, and even had his house set on fire. He has even been put in jail for speaking truth. He is known for his "I Have A Dream" speech. It is one of the biggest speeches in history because of how many people showed and it was televised. Martin was later assassinated on his balcony at his hotel on April 4, 1968

  • 9/11 Terrorist Attack

    This day was tragic to ALL people in the world. 4 United airlines was hijacked by Al-Qaeda terrorist. 2 of the planes crashed into the North and South towers of the world trade center. An hour and 45 minutes later both 110 story towers collapsed. The third plane crashed into the pentagon. The fourth plane initially was steered toward Washington, D.C but crashed into a field near Pennsylvania.

    This was the costliest natural disaster, as well as one of the five deadliest hurricanes, in the U.S. This storm was ranked the 3rd most intense U.S land-falling tropical cyclones. It caused 108 billion dollars in damage. At least 1,400 died due to levee failure. It hit the gulf, but it mainly hit New Orleans.

    On the day of November 4, 2008, Obama was elected President of the United States. This was a day for history as he is the first African-American President. This put hope in a lot of peoples hearts. At first it was hard for him because he didn't have much support in Washington but as years passed they eased up and things started to change and bills and laws he supported were starting to be passed.
