    ENGLISH ANTIQUE PERIOD (410 - 550 d. c)

English literature has its beginnings during the Anglo-Saxon or Old English period, which dates from A.D. 410 to A.D. 1066.
One of the most outstanding works, is the epic possessed "Beowulf", through which the legends of Scandinavia are mixed with the experiences of England.
Rhymes and oral transmission are used. The themes dealt with by the Anglo-Saxon elegies tend to have a tone of despair, concern, nostalgia and longing. Among the subjects they deal with are exile and religion.
