Mary I,also called Mary Tudor, was born at the Placentia Palace in Greenwich, England. She was the only daughter of King Enrique VIII and his first wife, Catalina of Aragón.Her grandparents were the Catholic Kings (Spain)

Henry VIII sent Mary to the Welsh border to preside over the Wale's Council.She had her court at Ludlow Castle and also, many people called her "Princess of Wales" but she wasn't sworn of it oficially.

Maria's parents marriage was in danger since his father wanted a son but all the babys Catalina had,died .Enrique wanted to divorce Catalina in order to marriage Ana Bolena but the church didnt allowed it. That was the time when England broke up with the Catholic church forever.

Eduardo got sick because of tuberculosis and his regent insisted him of putting his cousin,Jane Gray, as the queen since Maria was Catholic.Jane became the queen although she didnt want but the British citizens were in favour of Maria.So Jane was executed.

Mary was finally proclaimed Queen of England, she was very loved by the British since the people loved her mother.One of the first measures was to restore Catholicism in England and after being crowned, she accepted marry with Felipe II of Spain. The citizens didn't like this decision.

It seemed that Maria was pregnant because she didn't have the period and her belly was swollen. After some months , she didn't give birth so the doctors realized that it was a liquid retention.

Maria sent some spies to persecuted the protestants and also, to burnt their leaders at the stake. After a few months, anyone whose ideas were non-Catholic would be executed.Also, she prohibited religious celebrations and the use of non-Catholic books. The persecution of protestants made the Maria's popularity fell down,even though she had to overcome several obstacles during her reign such as a flu epidemic.

Maria and Felipe signed some marriage agreements to not interfere in the affairs of each country. On July 25, 1554 they married, he married for political affairs while she was in love with him.

In 1555,Felipe returned to Spain in order to attend to his father's abdication but actually, it was to get away from Maria.
Felipe returned two years later because he need money to declarated the French War. Maria was in love so she gave him everything he asked for and then, he left England forever.

England lost the city of Calais, the French took those territories. This was because Maria lent Felipe money and an army. After it, there was a tension in the English government and also, Maria was depressioned because she believed that she was pregnant but once again it was a false alarm.

The misfortunes that Maria suffered and the absence of her husband made her sick. In October 1558 the queen began to suffer from headaches and fever, so she made a testament where she left everything to her sister Isabel.
On November 17, 1558 Maria I died at the age of 42 and the cause of it is not clear.
