Emma goes int war dressed as a man. she is assigned to be a field nurse. Her fake name is Franklin Thompson.

Frank Thompson (Emma) is undergoing tough training to be in war even though he is a nurse. He is having a peaceful time until he finds a friend he hasn't seen in a long time dead.

While Emma is running away from her friend's grave, she sees a friends house and pours out everything to her.

Emma decides she is going to be a civil war spy and is going to the south to learn about the enemy. She goes through tests and passes.

Emma is in enemy territory and is posing as Cuff, a slave. She wears a curly black wig and disguised her skin black.

Emma has spent a day in enemy lines and she learns firsthand how hard it is to be a slave. She has a lot of information though, she also plans to return to the north tomorrow to report her information.

Cuff has made it back to the Union side. He returned as pvt. Thompson. He briefed his informer and is feeling very good.

Emma is going back behind rebel lines disguised as Bridget O'Shea, a plump saleswoman that some how made her way to camp.
When she returns, she is rewarded with the horse she got from the Confederate lines. She named him Rebel. -
There has been a bad turn in the war. Emma has witnesed rain destroying the Union briges, flooding over the riverbanks and soaking everything.

Emma has been promoted to a messanger between generals. She rides Rebel across the country everyday with life saving news and information.

Thompson and Rebel are with some federal soldiers and are attacked by Renegades. Some time after they are attacked and nearly killed by some enemys with hostages. They are saved by Rebel's amazing jump.

Pvt. Thompson is ordered to take a break. He goes to Williamsburg and does some volunteer nursing. On return from his trip he fights in the Final Battle for Richmond.

Emma has Malaria. She has to leave the war. In the hospital she finds out she has gone AWOL. Absent without leave!

The war is over but with Emma's malaria, she is listed as a deserter. She decided to do something about it. She hooked up with some old friend and asked for help. She got her military rights back, including her back pay, with an honorable discharge.

Emma died on September 5th 1898. She died of her malaria, which she never fully recovered from. She died at age 58.
