    Martin Luther

    Luther made it a necessity that schools teach children to read.
    Today it is a national priority.
  • Friedrich Wilhelm Froebel

    Froebel believed to enable children to learn what they are ready to learn when they are ready to learn. Froebel described himself as the gardener and his children the seeds. Froebel used gifts, songs, and educational games to help children.
  • Robert Owen

    Owen provided an Infant School while parents worked. Owen believed environments contribute to their beliefs. Eventually Owens led to the openings for the first infant school in london.
  • John Dewey and Progressive Education Theory

    Dewey redirected education to emphasize children and their interest rather than subject matter. Today we use child-centered cirriculums and child-centered schools.
  • From Civil Rights to the Education of Today

    Federal Government became involved in equal education for all. Federal Funding was provided for schools that had good test scores and progressed.
  • Abraham Maslow and Self-Actualization Theory

    Maslow developed this theory based on human needs. It encourages children to do their best, dress in a pleasing manner, decorate, promote self-esteem, genuinely care for their children, create a safe environment and security, and snacks for the classroom.
  • Jean Piaget and Constructionist Learning Theory.

    Piaget was interested in how children learn and develop. Piaget wrote about the cognitive theory approach to learning.
  • Urie Bronfenbrenner and Ecological Theory

    Bronfenbrenner's theory looks at a child's development through five environmental systems. They appeal to the microsystem or environment of parents, family, peers etc, interactions of Microsystems, exosystem, macrsystem, and Chronosystem.
