  • John Amos Comenius

    John Amos Comenius
    (1592-1670)
    Comenius lived his life as a writer. He is known as the first children book author with his book entitled, "The World in Pictures".
  • John Locke

    John Locke
    (1632-1704)
    Locke established the belief that development comes from the stimulation children receive from parents and caregivers and through experiences they have in their environment. He believed experience came from the mind and which promoted caregivers to create a stable enviroment for children to grow and learn positively.
  • Robert Owen

    Robert Owen
    Owen maintained that society can shape a child'd upbringing. He opened an infant school in 1816. The school represented the importance of early childhood education as well as introoduced the idea of early learning.
  • Urie Bronfenbrenner

    Created the Ecological systems theory which views the child as developing within a system of relationships. This helped many teachers becaom aware of how important a child's environment is towards their development.

    Howard Gardner created the theory of mulitple intelligances. He established the foundation for teacher curriculum that can support each child's needs as individuals.

    Low-income children were provided head start programs. This provides that provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services for families and children.
  • No Child Left Behind

    The No Child Left Behind act was established in 2001. It required students to be tested to see the acountability of each school. The test is a measurement of each school supporting academic improvement.
