different scientists during time

  • Robert Hooke

Hooke was a scientist in the 17th century. He pubished a book called Micrographia, meaning "tiny drawings" in 1665. Robert Hooke developed his version of a compund microscope and his most famous drawing is of a cork.
  • Anton Von LeeuWenhoek

LeeuWenhoek was very skilled at making microscope, which enabled him to magnify objects over 200 times. He described what he saw in a drop of water and scrapings from his teeth, this made him one of the first people to observe and record microbes.
  • Matthias jakob Schleiden

Matthias used a miscroscope to study plants. In 1838 he suggested that all plants are made up of cells.
  • Theodor Schwann

Theodor schwann was a german biology professor who spent his time studying animals. in 1839 schwann suggested that animals are made up of cells just like plants are. This became known as the cell theory.
  • Ignaz Philipp Semmelweiss

Ignaz was a doctor in Austria. He worked on many pregnant patients and many of them ended up dead. He discovered that washing his hands between patients helped less people die. this idea is based off of the germ theory of disease.
  • Karl Theodor Ernst Von Siebold.

Karl suggested that microbes were made up of cells. his idea about how organisms with many cells were made out of single-celled microbes were wrong.
  • Rudolf Carl Virchow

He was famous for saying "all cells arise from cells" in the 1850s. He was right about the idea that cells reproduce to create new cells, this is called a multicelluar creature.
  • Florene Nightingale

she was one of the first to recognize the value of cleanliness and reccomend it as good nursing. she improved the sanitary practices in military hospitals and less soldiers were dying.
  • Louis Pasteur

He was a french chemist. he discovered that heat kills microcobes, this process is called pasteurization. he realized that microbes could cause infectious diseases and were easily spread. this is the basis of the germ theory of disease.
  • Joseph Lister

He was workiing on having less people die after getting surgery due to germs. He came up with the idea of killing germs with chemicals in 1867 he used chemicals to clean medical instruments and sprayed the air and made you wash your hands.
  • robert Koch

koch developed a way to prove a specific microbe caused a particular disease by using mice. He created new ways to grow cultures of ucontaminted microbes.
  • William Stewart Halsted

He wanted to learn how to prevent these microbes from being spread in the first place. He used rubber gloves during surgery.
