During a job expo, a friend took her to the fire department section and introduced her to the Chief, who happened to be her friends uncle. The chief talked to her a bit and gave her a form to fill out to become a volunteer firefighter. When she passed the test, she felt like she had found her purpose. -
This stage of Dianas life is known as Intimacy vs. Isolation. During this time Diana is dating a guy and he became very self-conscious by her because she was stronger and was a "hero". This caused her to feel bad about herself and didn't make her feel safe in her relationship anymore. This caused them to get into arguments and eventually a break up, which hurt Diana mentally.
