Greek democracy

in 700-350 BCE, Ancient Greeks had the first Democracy.
507 BCE Athenian leader Cleisthens introduced a system of political reforms he called “demokratia”. to bre a cidizen you had to be ovetr the age of eighteen, male and both parents had to be born in greece.

Magana Carta

King John forced to sign the Magna Carta
Magna Carta outlined a number of provisions where the power of the monarchy would be restricted and the rights of the citizens safeguarded. the king had many rules amungst himself such as he was not allowed to
- Steal firewood from other lands
-Force widow to re-marry
-Force knights to pay money to excuse them from guarding the castle
-Confiscate horses and/or carts
-Force villagers to build bridges over rivers.

The Amarican reveloution

1775 –1781, the government created the first true democracy
Americans could vote and the powers of the government were restricted so that no one branch could have too much power
If one branch did try to abuse its power, the other two could over ride it.

french reviloution

-The middle class of France rose to overthrow their monarch
-King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette (both were sent to the guillotine) However, in the end those who championed liberty were corrupted (by power?)
-Leaders used the guillotine to eliminate all opposition
-Power fell to the military dictator Napoleon who tried to use his new power to take over all of Europe
