Cynthia's parents move
Jae Min Ho and Kyung Mi Ho got on an airplane in Incheon, Korea. They only packed their minimal personal belongings, and they had only 150 dollars in their pockets. They flew for more than 15 hours until they reached Lakeland, Florida. They had never been in America before. Even though they were thrilled to have come to America, they were also very scared because they did not know what they would do once they landed in America. Where will they live? Where will they work? -
Cynthia is born
Jae Min Ho and Kyung Mi Ho give birth to their first child, Cynthia Ho. They were excited to start a new life with their daughter. However, Kyung Mi Ho was slightly worried because she did not know if they were financially ready to support a child. -
Cynthia misses her parents
It is Christmas morning, and Cynthia is eight-years-old. She wakes up, gets out of bed, and runs towards her parents’ bedroom. They are not there. She asks her grandmother about their whereabouts, but her grandmother softly replies, “They are at work.” Cynthia’s parents’ worked everyday, so she never really got to see them. Cynthia was disappointed that her parents’ were not with her on Christmas. -
Family Vacation
Cynthia and her family takes a trip to North Carolina. When Cynthia and her mom were alone in the motel room one night, her mom handed her a ring. She told Cynthia that she was so happy to be able to spend quality time together. She said that she is sorry that her and Jae Min were not able to be always there for Cynthia and her brother because they worked a lot. She placed the ring on Cynthia’s finger, telling her that this ring is a reminder that mom and dad are always there for her. -
Cynthia switches majors
Cynthia decides to switch her major to early childhood education. She originally majored in biology to go to pharmacy school. However, she found that she really enjoyed teaching at her church during the summer. Cynthia was afraid that she would disappoint her parents. When Cynthia told her mom, her mom said that she will support Cynthia no matter what decision she makes. Her mom loves Cynthia unconditionally. -
Digital Memoir Project
When Cynthia began to work on the digital memoir project, it made her think about how her family has supported her. When Cynthia was younger, she did not understand why her parents worked everyday. However, Cynthia now feels that her parents are her greatest support. She knows that her parents worked so hard because they loved Cynthia and her brother. They would do anything to support their children. Cynthia would not be in school without her family's love and support.
