Struggling with chronic illness compounded by personal loss, Mary Patterson was preoccupied with questions of health.

In 1866, she had a life-changing experience when she fell on an icy pavement and was sent to the hospital in critical condition. Friends and a homeopathic physician who was sent to help her saw no way for her to recover.

Mary Patterson asked for her Bible and found herself unexpectedly healed while reading a story of Jesus' healing. Mary was unable to describe what had occurred to anyone, but she was certain it was the outcome of what she had read in the Bible.

Over the years, Mary Baker Eddy taught her healing technique to hundreds of women and men, who went on to create successful healing practices all over the world.

She quits her classes and focuses on creating a book. The Science of Life is the working title for the book.

Mary founded her own church after being disappointed that current Christian churches would not welcome her findings.

Mary founded a college where she taught over 4000 pupils, including physicians, attorneys, businesspeople, and housewives.

Over the course of this time, Mary writes and publishes five volumes on Christian science.

The Original Mother Church, which was established in 1894 and is still standing today, is located in the heart of the Christian Science Plaza.

Mary Died at 89 with her last words being "God is my life." Some thought the church would begin to fall however it grew for the next couple of decades. There are now over 50,000 testimonies by the church since the start of the 20th century
