    Franklin D. Roosevelt started the idea of court-packing in 1937 with his court-packing plan. Court-Packing is when the president tries to pack the supreme court with people that only agree with them. There has been court-packing all through history and it still goes on today.

    Dred Scott v. Sandford
    The court remained at nine justices for nine circuits. The chief justice's name was Cheif Justice Taney. He had an infamous opinion of Dred Scott v. Sandford. This led to the next expansion of the court in 1863. This case was about how anyone of African descent could or could not serve in Federal Court. Taney came to the final decision that anyone of African Descent can not serve in the Federal Court.

    The Judiciary Act of 1869 set the number of supreme court justices. This is also known as the Circuit Judges Act. Everyone came to an agreement that 9 was the best amount of justices allowed. This number has not changed still today. There is chief justice and eight associate judges.

    This bill was introduced by Franklin D. Roosevelt to add more justices to the Supreme Court. He did this so that they would be more in favor of him when they would vote. The central provision of the bill would have granted the president power to add more justices to the Supreme Court. This was also known as the "court-packing plan". This was the most known attempt of court-packing in history.

    The New Deal was able to be passed because of court-packing. If there was no court-packing then there would be a good chance that the New Deal would not have been passed.

    Donald Trump was accused of court-packing during his presidency from 2016-2020. People accused him of this because in 2016 a supreme court justice passed away and congress wouldn't let Obama elect one but they did Trump. In 2020 someone else passed away but they rushed to it and of course both of these times Trump selected people that agree with him because that is the logical thing to do.
