Colonial Unrest
The colonial unrest was caused by the French and Indian War mostly. This war caused large debt for the British which lead them to begin taxing the colonists on almost everything imported or bought. The Colonists and Natives began to become unhappy with the British's new actions after their victory in the war. -
Treaty of Paris 1763
A treaty signed claiming the victory of the British over the French in the French and Indian War. This treaty officially kicked the French out of North America and allowed the British to take over their land. -

Pontiac's Rebellion
Pontiac's Rebellion was a war that was between the Native American tribes and the British. The Natives were disatisfied and unhappy with the British's rules around the great lakes after the French and Indian war. -
Proclamation of 1763
Consists of the how the British are allowed the French's land after their victory of them in the French and Indian War. Britain gets land up to the Appalachian Mountains. -
Sugar Act
Requires merchants and others who were buying sugar or molasses to be taxed by the gallon bought. -
Stamp Act
An act that requires the colonists and everyone else to pay a tax on all papers. The money collected from this act went to protection near the Appalachian Mountains and to help pay off the debt from the war. -
Quartering Act
The Quartering Act is an act that requires the government to provide the soldiers with what ever they need when in service. This included being paid and supplied with housing and food. -
Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act is an act that allows the British to tax North America along with Britain. This was passed when they cancelled the Stamp Act. -
Townshend Acts
An act created by Charles Townshend in 1767 which allowed the British to tax the people of North America on lead, paints, tea and glass imported into the colonies. Many Americans thought this act was an abuse or overuse of power by the British and were not happy. -
Tea Act
This act that put a tax on tea goods. This actually made the tea cheaper so that they would stop smuggling tea. This was a catalyst for the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was when the sons of Liberty snuck onto British Tea Ships and dumped cargo (tea) into Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
British's response to the Boston Tea Party. They shut down Boston Harbor until the tea was paid for and took away Massachusetts' rights to self govern. -
1st Continental Congress
12 of the 13 colonies send representatives to discuss the intolerable acts. first time colonies unite in one government action. This lead to the Declaration of Independence.
