In the speech, many believed that it was the the beginning of the Cold war. The Iron Curtain separates western democratic countries to the eastern communist countries that was under control of the Soviet union.

The Marshall Plan was designed by the U.S with the purpose of helping European countries recover economically after WW2 and to prevent them from the spread of Soviet communism.
Berlin Blockade by USSR begins
During the multinational occupation of post–World War II Germany, the Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies' railway, road and canal access to the sectors of Berlin under Allied control. Their aim was to force the western powers to allow the Soviet zone to start supplying Berlin with food and fuel, thereby giving the Soviets practical control over the entire city.
NATO ratified as a Military Organization
This is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty .The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party.
Korean War Begins
The Korean war was the result of political division from the north which was ruled by the Soviet Union and the south which was ruled by the U.S. The north established a communist government and the south established a capitalist one which deepened the dislike between the two.
Korean War Ends
The war ended with around 4 million military and civilians casualties; 33 600 Americans, 16 000 UN allied, 415 000 South Koreans, 520 000 North Koreans, 900 000 Chinese casualties. A crease fire was signed in 1953 but in reality they are still at war today.
Warsaw Pact formed
It was the Soviet Union's way to respond to NATO. With this alliance signed, all communist countries including Bulgaia, Albania, Czechesolvia, East Germany, Poland, Hungary, and Romania allowed the Soviet Union take control of their military
USSR launches Sputnik into Earth orbit
Russia launched the first satellite ever into space and proved to other countries that they didn't need aircrafts anymore to carry nuclear bombs to other nations.

The Bay of Pigs Invasion was an unsuccessful action by a CIA-trained force of Cuban exiles to invade southern Cuba, with support and encouragement from the US government, in an attempt to overthrow the Cuban government of Fidel Castro.
Construction of Berlin Wall begins
A large stone wall bult by the German Democratic Republic to separate East Germany and East Berlin from West Berlin. It was built to attempt to separate communist lands to democratic lands.
Cuban Missile Crisis
Soviet and Cuban government secretly started to store nuclear weapons in Cuba and when the U.S discovered it, they commanded the Soviet ships to stop shipping. Eventually the Soviet government stopped to stop a nuclear war.
Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Ratified
Also known as partial test plan treaty, it banned the testing of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere, space, and under the ocean. It was siogned by the United States and the Soviet Union.
Gulf of Tonkin incident- Start of Vietnam War
Battle between U.S and North Vietnam. USS Maddox was attacked by 3 North Vietnamese torpedo ships.m In the end 1 U.S aircraft was damaged and all 3 torpedo ships were damaged. 4 vietnamese sailors were killed and 6 were wounded and the U.S didn't suffer casualties.
U.S lands first man on moon
On Apollo 11, Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin Jr. became the first humans on the Moon. It was a major accomplishment for the history of space exploration.
Salt 1 Nuclear Treay Signed
An agreement signed in 1972 by U.S. President Richard M. Nixon and Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev after the first round of Strategic Arms Limitations Talks (SALT I), held from 1969-72. It consisted of the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty and an Interim Agreement on the Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms.
Salt 2 Nuclear Treaty Signed
It covered most of the small details that were left from the Salt 1 agreement, most of it was about to agree on nuclear weapon limitations. It was signed by the Soviet leader and the President form the U.S and it involved the equality in terms of nuclear weapons delivery systems and MIRV missiles.

The Russian economy was becoming stagnant especially when the government was spending around 35% of their income to the military resulting to bankruptcy. People also lost their support to communism when they got fed up with the strict rules to communism and prefered the western lifestyle.
