After the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, the confrontations between the east and west had become severe. -
The Marshall Plan
Named after the U.S. secretary of state George Marshall, the Marshall Plan was a program that provided economic aid to Europe to rebuild after WWII. 13 billion was provided to rebuild europe. -
War in Korea
After Japan surrended in WWII the U.S. and Soviet Union agreed to temporarily divide the country in half. The Soviet Union quickly set up a communist government while the U.S. supported the a non communist regime. -
New Nations and Alliances
New alliances were formed. After the crisis of the airlift the U.S. and most other European countries joined toghether to form the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or Nato while the Soviet Union and other communist eastern european countries formed the Warsaw pact. -
The Cuban Missile Crisis
Withe the U.S. testing the hydrogen bomb the Soviet Union began developing weapons thus began the nuclear arms race. After the U.S. invaded Cuba and a U.S.-Soviet confrontation the Soviet Union stationed nuclear bombs in cuba putting the world in danger of nuclear war.
