    Korean War
    The Korean war began when North Korea invaded South Korea. the reason for the invasion was because North Korea wanted to unify the country with North Korea's government. However, the attempt failed and they are still divided. this can be a connection to the GASPIRE theme, political, since everything was based on North Korea having more as well as being seen with power/authority. this further impacted the cold war since it made divisions with the US and the Soviet Union.

    Joseph Stalin, who ruled Soviet Union since the late 1920's, dies. the reason for his would be because of cerebral hemorrhage. after he died, A man named Nikita K. then took over the communist party. the GASPIRE theme would be political because Stalin was the one who had the power at that time and when he died, there was a different perspective for the other countries. this impacted the cold war in a positive way because when Stalin died, the tension of the cold war seemed to calm.
  • Warsaw pact

    Warsaw pact
    the Soviet Union and the seven of its allies sign a treaty which established the Warsaw pact, which was a mutual defense organization that made the Soviets in control of the armed forces of the member states. the GASPIRE theme in here would be intellectual because the soviets used this pact as a way to be seen with dominance and control. this impacted the war because the US saw this as a potential threat which created more tensions between the US and the Soviet Union.

    When the soviet Union shot down an american spy plane in Soviet air space. its pilot, Francis Gary Powers was captured and the US was forced to admit that it has been doing it for several years. the captured pilot was in prison for 2 year in Soviet Union, but there was an exchange of spies which the US had as well. a GASPIRE theme would be social because the US's actions had to be exposed which made other countries possibly mistrust the US. this impacted the cold war since it created tensions.

Russia launched a intercontinental ballistic missile in 1957 which was the world's first man-made object in space. however, in 1961, Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space which created a tension for the US. A GASPIRE theme would be social since being the first made the country be seen as a very smart and technologically advanced. the impact of the cold war would be the tension on which country is more superior.

    when the CIA tried to overthrow Fidel Castro. the way that the CIA tried to do so was by doing a full scale invasion of Cuba with 1,400 trained Cubans who had left their homes when Castro took over. the invasion went bad since they were outnumbered and surrendered. this is still a current even since the reason for why the US did this was for personal interest economically which they still don't obtain. this impacted the cold war because it created tensions with communist governments.

    when the communist government built a barbed wire fence and concrete wall. the official purpose of this wall was to keep fascists from entering East Germany and undermining the socialist state. however, it primarily served the objective of stemming mass problems from east to west. A GASPIRE theme would be psychological was seen as a "protective" barrier to solve the problem. this impacted the cold war since it symbolized the division between the communist and the western democratic.

    When A US spy plane reported sighting the creation of a Soviet nuclear missile base in Cuba. President Kennedy created a naval blockade and demanded the missiles to be removed. to avoid disasters, Soviet leader, Nikita offer to remove the Cuban missiles if the US didn't invade Cuba. A GASPIRE theme would be psychological since Nikita's offer is based on not wanting to start a war again. this impacted the cold war since it created a tension between Cuba and the US.

    a long and costly war that made the communist government of North Vietnam go against South Vietnam and its principal ally, the US. more than 3 million people were killed in the Vietnam war. at the end, the US lost and the Communist forces took control of South Vietnam in 1975. this is still a current event because Vietnam isn't divided and is still a socialist government. this impacted the cold war since the Vietnam war was primarily started by the cold war.

    when the astronaut, Neil Armstrong went off to a space mission on the Apollo 11. he was the first man to be on the moon. he called out one of the famous quotes, "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." A GASPIRE theme would be cultural since both the Soviet Union and the US's culture is based on competition and who is on the top. this impacted the cold war by creating a reputation for the US and the Soviet Union, which of course made the US look better.

    SALT
    strategic Arms Limitation treaty signed between the US and the Soviet Union. the purpose was to reduce the manufacture of strategic missiles that are able of carrying nuclear weapons. the first agreement of SALT was signed by the US and Soviet Union in 1972. A GASPIRE theme would be intellectual since the treaty was made as a way to stop the problem and reduce tensions. this impacted the war in a positive way because it restricted the US and the Soviet Union for using nuclear weapons.

    the Soviet Afghan war was fought between rebels and the Soviet Union Supported the Afghan government. the US helped the Afghan rebel in order to try and end the communist government and stop the spread of communism. In the end, Afghan became one of the poorest countries in the world. this is a current even since Afghan is still the poorest country in the world. this impacted the cold war because this impacted the Soviet's economy as well as their reputation in a negative way.

    when the Cold war was beginning to stop across the Eastern Europe. this created a change and more than 2 million people visited the Berlin wall to see it fall. soon, the wall of Berlin fell and Berlin was united again for the first time since 1945. A GASPIRE theme would be geographic because while the fall of the Berlin wall, it shows how living inside the walls is geographically bad that people are happy that it has fallen. this impacted the cold war since this symbolized the end of the war.

    the warsaw pact was a military alliance between the Soviet Union and the eastern European nation. in 1991 however, the warsaw pact came to an end. it showed that Soviet Union was losing control over its former allies and that the cold war was falling apart.this is a current even because the Soviet Union is no longer a communist government. this impacted the cold war since this was basically the beginning to which where the cold war ended.

    End of the Soviet Union
    when the Soviet Union understood the end of Soviet Union. Mikhail Gorbachev, the leader of Soviet Union resigns from his position. as of December 26, 1991, Soviet Union ceases to exist. the current would be that the Soviet Union is no longer in action and what used to be the Soviet Union is now Russia. this impacted the war since this was formally, the ending of the war.

    the division between North Korea and South Korea started at the end of WWII. the Soviet Union occupied the North while the US occupied the South. this is a current event that links up to the cold war since North Korea and the Soviet Union still have a relationship, even after the fall of the Soviet Union. the relationship gained more after Vladimir was elected president of Russia in 2000.
