Truman Doctrine
A U.S. doctrine that was established in 1947 after the British had revealed to Truman that they could no longer keep British soldiers in Greece. It was a policy which expressed that the US would offer guide to any nation compromised by socialism. -

A United States program of economic aid from the reconstruction of Europe. This plan was initiated by the Secretary of state George Marshall. It offered European nations with generous funding to rebuild their economies. Many U.S. leaders had hoped to promote democracy in Europe in order to limit the spread of communism. -

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was brought about after the Berlin Crisis as the blockade had highlighted the Soviet threat to western Europe. Nato acted as a defensive alliance that indicated that if one member was attacked, all the other members would have to defend it. -

McCarthy was the main crusader against communism in the US government, McCarthy had ruined several lives and careers by accusing people of being communist with little to no evidence . -

The Bay of Pigs invasion occurred because of the 1,500 Cubans exiled trained and financed by the CIA launched an ill-fated invasion of Cuba from the sea in the Bay of Pigs. The plan was to overthrow Fidel Castro and his revolution. During the Bay of Pigs Invasion, invaders were badly outnumbered by Castro's troops, and they surrendered after less than 24 hours of fighting. -

Fall of Communism in Eastern Europe
The fall of Communism in Eastern Europe was the result of the Marshall Plan, which built up Western Europe & USA's economies and the Treatment of Eastern Europe by USSR. USSR controlled Eastern Europe, but put no care, wealth, or planning into their nations or future, they took money, equipment, and scientists from Eastern Europe and used it for themselves. -
Collapse of the Soviet Union
Communism collapsed in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe during 1989 - 1991; the Cold War also ended. This collapse resulted in the military buildup that took a toll on their command economy, and republics started pushing for independence. Mikhail Gorbachev attempted to save the Soviet Union by glasnost and perestroika. -

In 1991 The U.S. fought against Iraq when they illegally invaded Kuwait. Iraq considered Kuwait to be part of their country and wanted to take over Kuwait's oil fields and wanted access to the Persian Gulf. -

September 11th Terrorist Attacks
Terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda in New York City and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks killed almost 3,000 people and caused at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damage. Four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists so they could be flown into buildings in suicide attacks. -
War in Afghanistan
The War in Afghanistan was the direct result of the 9/11 attacks. After the 9/11 attacks president bush demanded Al qaeda leaders be turned over and terrorist training camps be shut down. -
