  • Yalta Conference

    AKA Crimea Conference. Code name Argonut conference was the world war II meeting of the heads og government in the US, UK, and the SU. They discussed Europes post-war recorization. When the cold war divided eurpoe, Yalta became a subject of intense controrery.
  • Marshall Plan

    the US was afraid that communists groups would gain lots of power. the cold war was coming up and the soviet union dominating Europe seemed very possible.George Marshall calls for a system of aids and loans.
  • Truman Doctrine

    it stated that the US would support Greece and Turkey. Considered to be the start of the Cold War.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Western powers airlifted 2,326,406 tons of food, coal, and passangers to the city. 278,228 flights. It was a success. This was important because it supplied Germany for the cold war which kept them alive durring the hard days when they had no money.
  • USSR Atomic Bomb

    The Soviet Union exoplodes its first atomic bomb. It was a great shock to the United States because they did not think the Soviet Union could create such a powerful atomic bomb so fast and so efective. Americans started to question their own saftey. This called for the United States to build up conventional nuclear weapons. Thic is part of what caused the cold war to become a nuclear war because everyone was inventing new nuclear weapons.
  • NATO

    Also Known As The North Atlantic Treaty Orginization. It was signed on 4 April 1949. The system of collective defence where by its members have to agree to mutual defence in response to an attack by any external party. The Cold War led to the Warsaw Pact because the people needed to agree on the defence.
  • Korean War Begins

    Between the Republic of Soulth Korea and the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (North Korea). This was the result of the political dirision of Korea. Even though Korea was focussing on their own war everyone was focussing on the cold war even more which makes the Korean War not seem to be as much of a big deal or major was as it really is.
  • Rosenburg Spy Case

    Julius Rosenburg and Ethel Greenglass Rosenburg were both spys for the Soviet Union. They were American Citizens spying on America. They were passinmg information about atomic bombing to the Soviet Union. They were both exicuted on June 19th 1953 for being spys. This scared many people into believing everyone was a spy.
  • Korean War Ends

    There was many bombing raids in this war. However it eventually because a trench war which just lead to more bombing. The Armistice agreement was finally signmed which restored the two borders. This was imortant because then the two different sides of the borders can focus on the war and work together.
  • East German Uprising

    This started with a strike by East Berlin Construction Workers. It turned into a wide spread uprising against the German Democratic Republic. It only took one night for this to happen because it happened over night.
  • Nakita Kruschev comes to power

    He lives from April 11 19894 until September 11 1971. He was a politicion who led the Soviet Union durring only part of the cold war. He was responsible for the de-Stalinization. This was important because Stalin was a very bad man who killes many people and even created a genocide. Nakita was forced into leading amny people to be killed but he appologized and later set out to make peoples life better. He was a major leader in the cold war and made major cuts in conventional forces.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Over the course of the Cold War there was arguing which led to the Warsaw Pact. It was a collective defence treaty where among eight communist states of centeral and Eastern Europe in existance durring the Cold War.
  • Hungarian Uprising

    This was a nationwide revolt against the goverment of the Hungarian peoples republic. This want on from the 23rd of October until the 10th of November. This was the first major threat to the Soviets controll. This reastablished free actions.
  • Suptnik

    This was a key event leading up to the cold war. This was precived as a technological gap between two superpowers. This included the first artificial Earth satelite. The Soviet Uninion led to the creation of NASA. This cause the cold war to have many more technological advances and objects.
  • U2 incident

    When the United Stated U2 spy plane was shot down everyone was outraged. It killed many people and caused lots of dammage. One of the survivng piolots denied the original mission which was to shoot down a city untill it was proven. It took seven years to build the plane. This was a great embarrasment to the US. If it wasnt shot down it could of finished its mission and gotton the US ahead in the war.
  • Berlin Wall (building)

    It was a barbed wire fence of Antifacistischer Schutz. It was a wall between East and West Berlin. It was built to keep facists from entering East Germany. It was one on the most powerful and endurrinmg symbols of the Cold War
  • Bay of Pigs invaion

    This was a failed mission to invade Cuba. It intended to ovwerthrough the revolutionary left wing goverment of Fudel Castro. The Soviet Union and United States were envolved in the cold war because of this failed invasion.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    This is also known as the October crisis because it happened in October. At the time the Cold War almost becaus ea nuclear confluict so it was important that each nation do missile research to stary ahead. The US was creating too many missiles which scared many people who feared that something terrible would happen to them.
  • Prague Spring

    This was attempted by Dubcek to grant additional rights to the citizens of Czechostovakia. This resulted in the citizens getting additional freedoms.
  • Soviet Union invades Afghanistan

    The Soviet war in Afghanistan lasted nine years. Part of the Cold War, it was fought between Soviet-led Afghan forces against multi-national insurgent groups called the Mujahideen, Hundreds of thousands of Afghan civilians were killed in addition to the rebels in the war. This cause the Soviet Union to be more modivated during the cold war.
  • Lech Walesa organizes trade union solidarity

    It is is a Polish trade union federation. It was the first non-Communist Party-controlled trade union in a Warsaw Pact country. n the 1980s, Solidarity was a broad anti-bureaucratic social movement, using the methods of civil resistance to advance the causes of workers' rights and social change.
  • Mikail Gorechev comes to power

    He was a Soviet States man. His stragetic aims contributed to the end of the Cold War. He removed the constitutional role of the communists party. He also lead the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
  • Berlin Wall (taking down)

    The head of the East Germany Communist party announced that citizens at the German Democratic Republic could cross. That night estatic crouds swarmed the wall. Some even brought tools to chip away at the wall. It was one on the most powerful and endurrinmg symbols of the Cold War
  • German Unification

    This was the process that the German Democratic Republic joined the Federal Republic of Germany to form Germany reunited. This is officially refered to as German unity. It was important to the cold war because the Easts econemy collapsed which pushed germany into recession. It had increased social tensions.
