    Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi born in Cremona, 15 of May of 1567, son of a barber who practiced medicine illegally.

    To 15 years, Monteverdi wrote his first musical work, a set of motets tripartite.

    In 1613 he was appointed choirmaster and director of the cathedral of San Marco in Venice, one of the most important posts of that time in Italy. He was also appointed music teacher of the Serenissima Republic of Venice. Since that time he composed numerous operas (many of which have been lost), motets, madrigals and masses.

    Monteverdi died on November 29, 1643 in Venice, leaving an extensive work that would influence all music later. His remains were buried in Basilica Santa María dei Frari.
