  • Election of 1860

    The election of 1860 is when Abraham Lincoln got elected.
    The south was not happy about this because they felt like they couldn't trust him and felt like he was trying to take away their slaves(property).
  • South Carolina Secedes

    South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union in December 1860. It was the beginning state to secede.
  • Attack on Fort Sumter

    Beginning of Civil War. When President Abraham Lincoln announced plans to resupply the fort, Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard bombarded Fort Sumter.
  • Battle of Bull Run/Manassas

    Confederates successful in this battle. Changed way North saw the war
  • Battle of Antietam

    The single bloodiest day in all of American history. First major win for North. After Antietam, Lincoln sees a chance to capitalize on the victory and issues the Emancipation Proclamation
  • Battle of Fredericksburg

    Confederates Win. Devastating loss for the Union.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Waits for impressive victory - Antietam delivers him(Lincoln) the perfect opportunity. Freed all slaves in states in CONFEDERATE states
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    Vicksburg was the last stronghold of the Confederates on the Mississippi River. Anaconda plan fulfilled - Union had complete control of the Mississippi River and could split up the South.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Lee launched his second invasion of the Northern states. Turning point because - Last time Lee and Confederacy ever invade the North.
  • 54th Massachusetts Fight at Fort Wagner

    Most famous of the all-black regiments. July 1863, attacks Fort Wagner in South Carolina
  • Gettysburg Address

    The speech Ambramam Lincoln gave address those who died in war and gave remorse for them. Encouraged more people to have faith in the war, to not let the fallen people's names go in vain.
  • Sherman’s March to the Sea

    A march conducted by Union General William from Atlanta to Georgia. Caused mass amounts of destruction during the way.
  • 13th Amendment Passed

    Abolished slavery, prohibited involuntary servitude. Nullified the fugitive slave act and 3/5 compromise.
  • Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    The civil war ended. Happened in a courthouse, in the living room at a table. Basically, Lee had given up. Also, in the backyard of this courthouse, the Civil war began.
