The south was not happy about this because they felt like they couldn't trust him and felt like he was trying to take away their slaves(property). -

The civil war ended. Happened in a courthouse, in the living room at a table. Basically, Lee had given up. Also, in the backyard of this courthouse, the Civil war began.
