  • Lincoln is elected president

    Lincoln is elected president
    Lincoln becomes president. He does not win by popularity, in fact, Lincoln is not even on the balot in nine southern states. He wins by earning enough electoral votes to beat out the four other canidates. This was the start to one of the most influential canidacies of all time. Lincoln changed the waythe country is run.
  • Confederate Declaration is signed

    Confederate Declaration is signed
    Seven Confederacy states have seceded, including Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and South Carolina. Some Leaders from these states travel to Montgomery, Alabama, and they sign The Constitution of the Confederate States of America. This is the start of a true split of America as a whole.
  • Civil War Begins

    Civil War Begins
    General P.G.T's Confederate forces attack Robert Andersons's Union soldiers at Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. The Union surrenders after two days of fighting. This marks the start of the Civil War.
  • Lincoln Requests Union Army

    Lincoln Requests Union Army
    Lincoln goes to congress to request a Union Army. Congress gives him permission to call for 500,000 men. At this point both the Confederacy and the Union have started recruiting and training men. This is a huge step for the Union.
  • First Battle of Bull Run

    First Battle of Bull Run
    Union General, Irvin McDowell against the Confederate Army. The Union is defeated and retreats back to washington forty miles away. The retreat is slowed because of the large amounts of people watching the battle.
  • Second Battle of Bull Run

    Second Battle of Bull Run
    General Stonewall Jackson leads the Confederacy to a victory. General John Pope is blamed for the loss of the Union. After the battle John Pope is releived of his General position. This is the second battle of Bull Run and the second loss for the Union at Bull Run.
  • Antietnam

    Antietnam
    This battle was a draw but stops General Robert E. Lee's plan to attack Maryland. Over 26,000 men are killed, missing, or wounded from this very battle. September 12, 1862 is still the bloodiest day in the United States.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    Lincoln annouces that all slaves in captured territory of the Union are free. He also orders the enlistment of black soldiers. This is when the war became a war over slavery.
  • Military Draft

    Military Draft
    Congress enacts a draft requiring every man to serve in the army unless he can come up with a substitue or pay the goverment three-hundred dollars. This leads to draft riots in New York and Northern states. This is the first draft in American history.
  • Gettysburg

    Gettysburg
    After a three to four day battle, the Union Army defeats the Confederate Army in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This is one of the bloddiest battles of war and marks a turning point for the Union.
  • Virginia Campaign

    Virginia Campaign
    Ulysses L. Grant and 120,000 troops march toward the Confederate Capitole in an attempt at ending the war. This six week battle ends, and is a failed attempt at ending the war. About 50,000 Union soldiers' died in this battle.
  • End of Slvaery

    End of Slvaery
    The Thirteenth Amendement is approved by Congress. The Thirteenth Amendement is added to The Constitution. Slavery is later officially ratified andabolished. This amendement changed the history and the way we live to this day.
  • Fall of Richmond

    Fall of Richmond
    Ulysses L. Grant's army breaks through Confederate lines and marches toward Richmond. The Union Army takes Richmond. The Confederate capital is leveled by fire. This is a huge win for the Union, and might have been the reason the Union won the war.
  • Confederacy Surrenders

    Confederacy Surrenders
    General Robert E. Lee surrenders to General Ulysses L. Grant in Virginia. The Union has won. The war is over. This is the end to a war that was worth the cause.
  • Lincoln Assassinated

    Lincoln Assassinated
    Lincoln is shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theatre. Lincoln never regains conciousness. He dies from his wound. A man who made a huge diffeence for the United states is murdered.
