    *People came to watch the battle because they thought it would of been a non-bloody war

    *Conferderates caught General Grant by surprise and pushed the Union Army back
    *General Grant counterattacks and forces the Confederates to retreat
    *Over 23,000 soldiers died
    *General Grant established the first win for the Union

  • Sherman's March

    *Atlanta Campaign: after winning the battle of Atlanta, Sherman order the evacuation of the city and burned most of the buildings in the city, military or not
    *After taking the city, Sherman headed south toward Savannah=Sherman's March
    *Victory at Atlanta helped get Lincoln re-elected
    *Marched from Atlanta to the sea from November-December 1864
    *Sherman's march ended with the capture of the port city of Savannah on December 21
