  • "The First To Secede"

    "The First To Secede"
    On December 20th 1860 South Carolina was the first to secede from the Union. In a meeting in Charleston on December 20th at that meeting the first Ordinance of Secession was written, it stated
    "We, the people of the State of South Carolina in convention assembled, do declare and ordain... that the Union now subsisting between South Carolina and other States, under the name of 'the United States of America,' is hereby dissolved," making South Carolina a free and independent country.

    The civil war was a fight between brothers that was unfair and wrong. This country was developed on the idea that everyone was created equal.
  • Lincon Inaugurated

    Abraham Lincoln became the 16th president of the United States. His Inaugriation took place in Washington D.C. In his Inauguration speech he made it clear that he was going to enforce federal laws, even in the states that seceded.
  • The Civil War Begins!

    The Civil War Begins!
    The Civil War started when Confederate soldiers under General P.G.T. Beauregard open fire on Fort Sumter in South Carolina's Charleston Bay. On April 13, U.S. Major Robert Anderson surrendered the fort.
  • Virginia Secedes

    Virginia Secedes
    Virginia secedes from the Union,then within five weeks by Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina, This made an eleven state Confederacy with a population of 9 million, including nearly 4 million slaves. The Union will soon have 21 states and a population of over 20 million.
  • Battle At Bull Run

    The Union Army under General Irvin McDowell suffers a defeat at Bull Run, southwest of Washington. Confederate General Thomas J. Jackson gets the nickname "Stonewall," as his brigade resists Union attacks. Union troops fall back to Washington. President Lincoln realizes the war will be very long.

  • March 1862

    March of 1862 was a very busy month, Abraham Lincoln made Andrew Jackson the Military governer of Tennesse. The Battle of Pea Ridge and The Battle of Elkhorn Tavern occured just 2 days appart from eachother. Abraham Lincoln proposes that slaves in the border states be emancipated gradually, with compensation to the owners. The Battle of Hampton Roads,The Battle of New Bern, The Battle of Shiloh,The Battle of Kernstown all happened.
  • Battle of Pittsburg Landing

    The Battle of Pittsburg Landing was a Union win. On the first day of the battle of Shiloh/Pittsburg Landing, General Albert Sidney Johnston, is killed while leading an advance against a Union position in a peach orchard.
  • Prisoners!! :(

    On Island nummer 10, in the Mississippi River down river from New Madrid, is captured. More than 5,000 Confederates are taken prisoner
  • The Battle of Seven Pines

    The Battle of Seven Pines
    The Battle of Seven Pines was a Union win that took place in Virginia. Gen. Joseph E. Johnston moved to defend the capital.Johnston sought to isolate and destroy the troops which were operating south of the Chickahominy River. His plan called for two-thirds of his army, approximately 51,000 men, to attack while the remaining third occupied and held the bulk of the Union army north of the river. His plan didnt go very well at all, He only had a fraction of his troops and began 5 hours late.

    A lot of closely linked battles known as The Seven Days Battle start near Mechanicsville as the Army of the Potomac begins its advance to Richmond.   • Seven Days Battle...Continued.

    Naval assault on Fort McAllister, Battle of Malvern Hill
    Battle of Malvern Cliffs. Robert E. Lee attacked George B. McClellan whose men made a gallant stand in front of the James River. Lee called off his attack after failing to break the Union line.
  • Second Battle of Bull Run

    The goal was to make quick work of the bulk of the Confederate army, open the way to Richmond, the Confederate capital, and end the war. From August 29th- 30th.
  • Battle of Antietam

    no other Civil War battle featured a larger concentration of soldiers with nearly 200,000 combatants.
  • The Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation
    The Emancipation Proclamation went into effect. The Emancipation Proclimation was limited in many ways. It applied only to states that had seceded from the Union, leaving slavery untouched in the border states.

  • The Battle of Gettysburgh!

    The Battle of Gettysburgh!
    The Battle of Gettysburg General Robert E. Lee comes into Pennsylvania where he meets George Meade. First battling north of the city, by the second day Union forces had retreated south, forming a strong line as men arrived almost continuously. On the third day, Pickett's Charge marked the end of the Confederates hope for a victory. This was the bloodiest three days in American history :(
  • Gettysburgh Address

    At the dedication of the National Cemetery in Gettysburg President Lincoln delivers a two-minute speech. Immediately following the speech he calls it a "flat failure." The speech is known today as the Gettysburg Address.

    Ulysses S. Grant was given total comand of all United States military forces!
  • Fall of Atlanta

    Atlanta's Mayor James Calhoun surrendered the town to the Confederates
  • March to Sea!

    General Sherman began his march to sea November 15th 1864. He destoryed everything in his path when he was done, he returned to Savannah.
  • 13th Amendment.

    13th Amendment.
    The 13th Amendment said that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." This abolished slavery in the United States
  • Surrender!

    Robert E. Lee surrenders the Army of Northern Virginia to Ulysess S. Grant at the home of Wilmer McLean in Appomattox Court House. The conditions of the surrender were very...nice. Generals got to keep their horses and side arms. The Soldiers were fed. Plus, the Union couldnt celebrate in a disrespectful manner. For the simple fact that we were fighting our brothers and it wasent right. The war ended so did slavery.
