    This was the first major land battle of the Civil War. The Union army. the two armies clashed near Manassas Junction Virginia. The Confederates broke the flank of the Union Army forcing them to retreat towards Washington. This was a moral boost for the South. it Shocked a lot of people who thought this was would be easily won by the Union.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Battle of Shiloh
    Was an early fight in the War. It started with the Confederates launching a suprise attack on the Union troops. but after being successful in the beginning. the south was forced to retreat because they couldn't hold the position. This ended up being a Union victory but the deaths on both sides totaled to 23,000 shocking people on both sides.

    This battle would prove to be a deciding battle in the war. General Lee was the commander of the south. And General Pope for the North. Lee outplayed Pope on several fronts with counterattacks THe losses . were big on both sides. This forced Pope to retreat back to Washington with his wounded and beat up men.

    General Lee and General McClean faced of near Antietam creek in Maryland. This was a bad Union loss and the single bloodiest day in American history. With a bunch of other defeats to go with this Union loss this made Lincoln declare Emancipation Proclamation. There were more than 22,000 casualties. Originally a copy of Lee's battle plans got lost and in the hands of Union General McClean however he failed to capitalize on this discovery.

    This battle consisted of nearly 200,000 men. Was the largest accumulation of troops in the whole Civil War. This was another Union defeat that sent moral plummeting for the North. The Union army was under new command from Lincoln. He appointed General Burnside. The soldiers fought hard but failed due to mismanagement from the Generals. Burnside accepted responsibility while many blamed Lincoln for a impossible task. Burnside was later replaced by Joseph Hooker.

    This battle is strongly considered the greatest victory for Confederate General Lee. Lee's forces were heavily outnumbered he split he group in two and forced Hooker to play defense and retreat. However it came at a cost because one of Lee's high generals Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded.

    Union forces under the Command of Uysles S. Grant took at Confederate stronghold of Vicksburg Mississippi. This battle helped divide the Confederacy and showed the genius of Grant. The union took the city in three weeks and was a major victory for the North.

This was known as Sherman's march to the sea heading to Savanna next.The Union forces surrounded the Confederates. Was a turning point in the War. Constant bombardment of the city by the Union helped with their victory.

    Was a series of battles around Virginia. Miles of trenches were dug by Union. This battle was a union victory. More than 60,000 casualties. Grant knew the fall of Petersburg would be the fall of Richmond. This city was a major distribution place for the Confederates.

    Lee and his army desperately tried to escape and head for the Southern railroads but was cut off and surrounded by Union troops every occasion. Lee was at Appomattox courthouse despite a final attempt to escape. Lee decided to surrender his troops to General Grant at Mcclean house. Grant and Lee were the highest ranking officers. General Grant quickly wrote up the papers that said all men of the Confederacy were to be pardoned and given Union rations. Also keep their horse necessaryfor farming
