  • Leaving The Union

    Leaving The Union
    After much dispute the South and North split. South Caroline was the first to leave the Union. Florida, Georiga, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas soon followed. Together these states formed their own country naming it the Confederate States of America.
  • The Start

    Ignoring Lincoln's pleas to rejoin the Union, the Confederacy opend fire to Fort Sumter. Although no one was killed or wounded, this simple attack proclaimed that war had started.
  • More Secession

    Arkansas, North Caroline, Tennesse, and Virgina left the Union to join the Confederate States of America.
  • 1st Battle of Bull Run

    1st Battle of Bull Run
    3,500 Confederate soliders met the Union near Manassas Junction where the First Battle of Bull Run happened.
  • McDowell to McClellan

    McDowell to McClellan
    Lincoln replaces General McDowell with George B. McClellan.
  • Blockade

    Blockade
    Union ships form a blockade causing shortages in supplies such as shoes, clothing, and fariming equiment. The shortage in supplies caused many people to die.
    Lincoln takes direct command of the Union army.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Battle of Shiloh
    Confederate troops surprise the Union witha attack at Shiloh on the Tennessee River. The battle kills 13,000 Union soilders and 10,000 Confederate soilders.
  • Battle Of Seven Pines

    After doing so poorly, the Confederacy recieves General Robert E. Lee, who would help them win many battles. Whiles McClellan was too scared to actually do anything.
  • Seven Day Campaign

    Seven Day Campaign
    This battle was a Confederate victory because the Union retreated. The Confederacy lost 120,000 soliders and the Union lost 16,00. Lincoln replaced McClellan with John Pope.
  • 2nd Battle of Bull Run

    2nd Battle of Bull Run
    The Union lost under command of Pope making Lincoln replace him with McClellan.
  • Antietam

    Antietam
    Lee hoped to gain England's support by defeating the Union on their own soil. Lee's plans fell apart later when the Union discovered them wrapped in cigars.
    Antietam was the bloodiest battle in all US history
  • McClellan to Burnside

    McClellan to Burnside
    McClellan was replaced with Ambrose E. Burnside.
  • Frederickburg

    Burnside tried to attack Lee in Frederickburg, Viringa. He lost since Lee had the high ground. Lincoln later replaced Burnside with Joe Hooker.
  • The Emacipation Proclamation

    This document was made by Lincoln and stated that all slaves in rebelled states would be free, This also showed that African Americans could join Union Army.
  • Chancellorsville

    Hooker dived his army into three flacks to attack Lee with two flanks and cuttoff their supplies. Lee then decided to divide his much smaller army as well to out flank Hooker. Hooker thought Lee had retreated but was surprised when the Confederacy attacked him. Hooker retreated giving Lee the win.
  • Gettysburg

    Gettysburg
    The Confederate army marched into Gettysburg to get shoes but were met by the Union. These three days were spent with fail attempts to win from the Confederacy. The Union won this battle which is said to be the most important battle in the Civil War.
  • Gettysburg Address

    Lincoln arrives at the Gettysburg battlefield and dedicated it. He also gave the Gettysburg Address, one of the most reconized speeches in US history.
  • General Grant

    General Grant
    Lincoln appointed Ulysses S. Grant, a very sucessful Gerneral in the West, to command the Union in the East. Sherman was appointed to the West.
  • Atlanta Falls

    Sherman arrives in Atlanta and burns a large part of the city to the ground. After Atlanta falls, Lincoln trys to get re-elected.
  • Savannah

    Sherman used "total war" as his tatic to march all the way to Savannah. He then returned North to join Grant's army.
  • 13th Amendmant

    Congress passes the Thirteenth Amandment to the United States Constitution which forbided slavery.
  • Reunited

    Reunited
    Lee surrenders to Grant at the village of Appomattox Court House in Virgina. Grant allows Confederate soilders to keep their sidearms, horses, and mules.
