The Plessy v. Ferguson decision was the court case that made the decision to allow seperate but equal facilities. This case was held in 1896. On May 17,1964 the Supreme Court gave the hand to the Brown v. Borad of education to ultimetly overturn the previous dicision to have "seperate but equal facilities. The results of the Brown v. Reverend george lee was the vice president of the NAACP. He was Shot in the face and killed while urging blacks in Mississippi to vote. witnesses have reported seeing whites drive by and shjoot hhim while he was inside his vehicle. The Governor never sent anyone to Belzoni to where the murder occured.

Lamar Smith was a voting rights activists. He was shot on the Lincoln County courthosue lawn by a white man. This happened in broad daylight with many bystanders there to witness the event. The shooter was never charged with anything because the bystanders that witnessed the happennings never would admit that they had saw a black man shot by a white man.

Emmett Louis Till-14 was murdered for a alledgedly "flirting" with a white cashier at a grocery store in Money Mississippi. He was then kidnapped beat and shot in the head by two white men. The men had been tried for the murder but were not found guilty because the jury at the trial were all white. Emmett Till's mother held a open casket funeral,thousands of people came to the Roberts Temple Church to see Emmett's body that was on display for 5 days.

John Earl Reese-16 was shot and killed by 2 nightriders at Hughes Cafe in Mayflower, Texas. The nightriders claimed that the nigth of the murder was just a riad and that they wanted to teach 'uppity blacks" a lesson. The nightriders "wanted to scare someone and keep the n****rs and the whites from going to school together"

Rosa Parks was arresed for violatign the Alabama law. After a long day at work Rosa paid for and was riding a bus home, when a White man entered and demanded she get up and give him her spot. After her refusal the bus driver then had to contact police to remove Rosa from the bus and breaking Alabama state law. She was not only arrested but had her rights as a human taken away in seconds.

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was the large protest of African Americans refusing to ride buses. This protest lasted for 15 days and was one of the first demonstrations against segergation in the US.

Segergated seating was the begining of the seperation of the African Americans and whites on basues in Montgomery. This was to try and prevent blacks and whites from fighting over seats on the buses.

Willie Edwards Jr. was on his way into work as a truck driver when he was stopped by four klansmen and was held at gunpoint. They did this becasue they thought he was a different man that had benn dating a wgite woman. They had held him at gunpoint to jump off a bridge into the Alabama River.

Senator Richard Russell (D-Ga.) , President Eisenhower, and Senetor Lyndon Johnson (D-Texas) from the legislation. Senator Strom Thurmond (D-S.C.) all made the greatest impact on the decision to pass the 1st civil rights movment. The law stated that the attorney general could file lawsuits on behalf of african americans who had been denied the right to vote. It also created federal commission on civil rights.

Nine African American students tried to enroll and attend school at Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. After the refusal and blockade of The National Guard. After abuse and refusal to let the students into the school President Eisenhower sent on federal troops to protect them and allow them to get into school for the very first time.

Mack Charles Parker was jailed for accusations of the raping of a pregnant white woman. He was then taken from his jail cell and was shot, killed and trown into the Peral River and gound 10 days later.

Four African American students staged a sit-in as a non-violent way to protest segergation. The 4 boys were all students at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. All of the boys had beriended white men all part of the NAACP. Although only the 4 started the origianal sit-in it began to grow and grow until the protest began to get to be too much and t=a mans coat set on fire and teh protest was put to rest.

Racial segregation was so high in bus terminals a black man was arrested for being in the "white only" part of the bus terminal that was not clearly labeled. The Supreme Court then decided to end that segregation to keep the violence down.

The Freedom Riders were brutally attacked and killed by the KKK who were supported by police and other law officials. The KKK and Police officials had 15 minutes to attack each bus. Each bus was attacked just minutes before reaching ots final destination.

Herbert Lee was killed by E.H Hurst. Hurst was never charged for any murder because it was said that he was attacked by Herbert with a tire tool. Although that is not what happened, when herbert was approched by Hurst he was held at gumpoint. When he began to talk to Hurst, he told Herbert he would shoot him. After talking him out of it Herbert slid over to and out of the passenger side door and got of his truck but was then unltimitly shot in the head by Hurst.

When James Meredith tried to enroll at Ole Miss chaos broke out. The government then had to get involved when the Kennedy adminisration had to send in 31,000 National Guardsmen and other federal forces

Medgar Evers was a African American civil rights leader. Leading up to his assassination he had served in ww2 he was was also a part of the NAACP. After his death he was buried in Alrlington Cemetary in Washington DC.

The purpose of the March on Washington was to have a large protest against Segregation. The famous speech delivered at the March on Washington was the 'I have a dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr.

The March from Selma to Montgomery was important for raising awareness to others about the difficulties blacks in the south faced when wanting to vote. The marches faced many violent protesters with violent resistance by state and local officials. The result was good they made their goal, eventually after 72 consistant hours made it with the protection of government officials.

Before becoming a Supreme court justice he served a s a lawer in front of the supreme court. I think this was a monumental event becasue he was the first black man to be sworn into the supreme court.

Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated at the Loraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee by James Earl Ray. He was then rused to Saint Joesph's Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:05pm. He had a large impact on whites and African Americans because he tought, told,and showed the importance of the two races getting along with eachother.
