  • Brown Vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education was one of the first major landmarks in the civil rights movement. It showed that separate but equal was not possible and outlawed segregation of public schools.

  • Rosa Parks Arrest

    Rosa Parks is arrested for not giving up her seat to a white person on a bus. This sparks outrage and showed the hypocrisy of the South.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycotts

    People Boycott the Montgomery Buses. This works to make it so the city loses out on lots of money and also shows that the buses are segregated even though their main occupants are African Americans. This continues for a long time.
  • Little Rock Nine

    This was the first group of African Americans to go to a white only school. They faced many challenges and had to be protected at all times.
  • Sits Ins

    African Americans would sit in diners to prevent white people from sitting in them or from ordering.
  • Freedom Riders

    This was a group of people that used busses in the south to protest by using as many of the white only facilities that they could.

  • JFK Assassination

    John F Kennedy is killed from a building whilst out on a parade.
  • Birmingham Protests

    People go to Birmingham to protest inequality because it is known for its racism and cruelty towards African Americans.
  • March on Washington

    This is a march that has 20,000 people partaking in it and is also where MLK gives his "I have a dream" speech.
  • Civil Rights Act 1964

    Prohibits racial discrimination in voting.
  • Mississippi Summer

    Major Campaign in Atlantic City.
  • Selma Marches

    Protests met with violence from whites. Very large groups of people attacked brutally.
  • Voting Rights Act

  • MLK Assasination

    Martin Luther King is assassinated whilst protesting in Memphis on his hotel balcony.
