    Martin Luther King was a major civil rights activist during the 20th century and he also gave the 'I have a Dream' speech during the March on Washington.
  • Andrew Young is Born

    Andrew Young is Born
    Andrew Young joined the SCLC( Southern Christian Leadership Conference) which planned protesets with Martin Luther King Jr. When King was assassinated Young did not stop protesting a got a seat in the House of Representatives. From there he passed laws that helped thousands of blacks get elected to higher office. He was elected two more times to the house.

    This decision made by the Supreme Court declared that schools that are, separate but equal are unconstitutional. This resulted in many schools closing down because they reufsed to integrate blscks.

    Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter admitted to UGA
    Holmes and Hunter are admitted into the University of Georgia after a lenghty court case by Judge Bootle and this ended UGA's 160 years of segregation.

    Albany Movement
    The Albany Movement was started by the SNCC as the encourgared balck locals to fight the racist establishments of the area. So many people were arreetsed during the movement that eventually there was no one left to protest.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    The Mrach on Washington ws one of the Civil Rights Movement's largest gatherings as more than 250,000 people attended. This is when Martin Luther King gave his famous I have a dream speech.

    Lester Maddox's Governorship

    Lester Maddox before becoming a governor owned a restaurant called the Pickrick cafetyria which he segregated very much. He was photographed threatning blacks with axes if they tried to enter his restaurant. He ran for governor and lost to William Hartsfield and Ivan Allen Jr. When he was finally elected governor he appointed more black people than any governor before him.
  • Maynard Jackson becomes Mayor of Atlanta

    Maynard Jackson becomes Mayor of Atlanta
    Maynard Jackson was the first black mayor of Atlanta. He also reformed the police department so blacks could rise in ranks and that the number police brutality cases went down. The Hartsfield-Jackson Airport is named in his honor and William Hartsfield's.
