    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    The Montgomery Buss Boycott started when Rosa Parks; A Civil Rights activist, was arrested for refusing to give up her seat for a white passenger. It was a political and social protest in which people of Montgomery Alabama were protesting agaisnt racial segregation on the public transit system. This protest lasted 13 months when it was only supposed to last for one day! It took place from december 1st to december 20th 1956

  • National Guard blockade

    National Guard blockade
    Governor Farbus of Arkansas brings in National Guard to prevent black students from going into a white school
  • Sit in at woolworth's lunch counter

    Sit in at woolworth's lunch counter
    Four college students sat down at the lunch counter. The staff from the lunch counter refused to give them service because of their race and because the resturant was segregated, they were asked to leave. The four students refused to leave and stayed seated until the store closed. When it all started there were only 4 students but when it ended more than thousands of people were protesting, whites and blacks. While they were doing this they indured drinks poured on their heads and people hitting

    the north and the east were very diffrent.the south was still very segregated and the north was started to let go of their racist ways. The north had un segregated buses and the South did not. The people down in the south did not like this at all. When they found out people were going to the south on un segregated buses they got mad and they found a bus and they beat everybody that was ridring, and burned the bus

    "The other America" is a book by Michael Harrington written about poverty in America. Back then America was very seperated from the rich to the poor and when this book came out it showed the rich how bad the other half lived and opened their eyes.

    Martin Luther King Jr writes a letter.
    Martin Luther King Jr. wrote a letter from Birmingham jail known as "The negro is your brother." His letter was wriiten in response to a statement known as "A call for unity." In this letter MLK Jr basically said that he believed that all communities and states were the same and that everybody should be treated the same way.

    March in Washington
    It was one of the largest political human rights rallies in U.S history. At this ralley Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I have a dream" speech that was promoting harmony between races during the march. This was one of the biggest movements during this time. Whites and blacks all came together.
  • President JFK is assasinated

    President JFK is assasinated
    President John F. Kennedy was assasinated November 22nd 1963. His death remains one of Americas greatest mysteries and contraversies because the reason behind his death hasnt been solved. Till this day they still dont know why he was killed. That same day after president JFK died; Vice president Lyndon B Jhonson was inagurated president aboard Air Force One.

    This amendment was passed and this amendment stated that you could not be charged to vote.

    It outlawed major forms of discrimination against racial, ethnic, national and religious minorities and women.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was a prominenet leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He was arreseted for demonstrating with out a permit.
  • Malcom X was assistanated

    Malcom X was assistanated
    Malcom X was an African-American Muslim minister, and a civil rights activist. He was assasinated Febuary 21st 1965. Shocking thing is that he wasnt killed by a crazy racist but he was killed by his own people from his religion.
  • Voting Rights Act

    Voting Rights Act
    This act outlawed discriminatory voting practices.
  • Watts Riots

    Watts Riots
    The watts riots started on August 11th and ended August 17th in 1965. These riots lasted 6 days and left 34 people dead and 1,032 people were injured. The riots were caused because an African-American man named Marquette Frye was arrested for the suspition of being intoxicated while driving but police officers used force which upset the community as they were watching.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4th 1968. He was shot in a motel in Memphis Tennessee by James Earl Ray.
  • Forced busing begings

    Forced busing begings
    Forced busing was when students would be transported to other schools in order to have a balance in the amounts of a certain nationality of kids at a school. It was an effort to intergrate students. Many white students were opposed to sharing their school with colored people.
