Harry Truman writes a document in 1948 to spread the news that the Armed Forces will be desegregated. This shows the progressive society after WWII. Colored men fought in the war and their showing of loyalty to the country and wanting work tpgether as one changes the rules for the Military. This is the begining act of change.

The Brown family sues the United States Government because the segregation of their children's school is unconstituational by the 14th amendment. The Browns win the case and schools are effected to which desegregation of schools is a new idea. This is self-defense.

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a riot of resistance by the black community in America. This was a response from Rosa Parks refusal to give her seat up to a white man on the bus and her arrest. To boycott this, Blacks walked and stopped riding the bus to protest the public transportation system. Little Rock 9 was an event where 9 colored women were introducted into a public highschool and were able to learn and attend the school. This was a big change for the country as the minority group of colored women were now gainging the rights to gain and education. These women were escorted by police for safety to enter the school.

The 2nd wave of Feminism movement happened in the 1960s and 1970s and it primarily focused on problems of equality and discrimination. Origionally the movement was in the United States with American women, but the feminist movement soon spread to other Western countries. Ruby Bridges, a 7 year old black girl was escorted into school in the efforts to desegregate the public school system in 1960. Ruby was a symbol of hope and changed for colored people looking for education. This was a hopefully change for the discriminated groups.

Freedom riders were interstate buses of people that rode through the racist and desegregated south to spread the ideas of equality and unity. The UFWU was a union for mexican and mexican american farm workers in America. This union was made to fight for mexican labor workers issues and have a sense of togetherness in troubling times. The union created strength in numbers and a powerful team to protect labor workers.

Malcolm X was a muslim minister and human rights activist. He supported black nationalism and the freedom of black choice of nationalism, religion, and culture choices in America. Malcolm was seen as a very contriversal man and after his remarks about the assasination of JFK and being condemned of sexual relations with younger women, he was assasinated by Thomas Hagan, a man from the nation of Islam.

President Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to stop the use of literacy tests as a need to vote. This stopped the discriminatory voting practices used in many southern states after the Civil War. This act to enforce the 15th amendment to the Constitution was signed into law 95 years after the amendment was ratified.

President Johnson signs the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which provides equal housing opportunity regardless of race, religion or national origin. The 1968 Act added on previous acts and prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, renting, and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin, sex, handicap and family status.

Shirley Chisholm became the first Black woman ever elected to Congress. In 1972, Chisholm became the first Black woman to seek a major party nomination for president. Women are in government! Women are gaining strength through allowance of power by American men. Women are now ellected to government possitions and can maintain bigger role career jobs.

The Occupation of Alcatraz was a 19 month long protest against the United States by Indian groups. This is an example of civil disobedience for occupying federal land in protests for rioting.
