  • Brown v. Board of Education is decided

    The U.S. Supreme Court decided that schools should be segrated. The court that the speperation was unequal, and unconstitutional. They alos reazlied that it violated the 14th amendment equal protection clause.
  • Bus Boycott in Montgomery, Alabama

    This was a political and social protest campaign aganist racial segregration on public transmit. On Demember 5,1955 all blacks refused to use public transportation.
  • Sit In at Woolworthsin Mississippi takes place

    When four African Americans college studfents went out to eat they were ignored, and refused to ger served. This Sit In was a nonviolent way to protest aganist the whites fro equal rights.
  • Integration of Little Rock Central

    In Little Rock, nine African American students were the first to intregrate schools. They were harassed and bullied by majority of the whites. The government had each of the black students aurrounded by guards.
  • James Meredith wins the right to attend 'Ole Miss

    He is a civil rights icon. He was the one who intergrate the University of Mississippi.
  • President Kennedy forces University of Alabama to desgregate

    Governor George Wallace promised whites Segregration forever! But when African Americans tried to enter the University of Alabama, he blocked the doors. Then Kennedy deploded the National Guard troops to force Alabama to desgreate.
  • Medgar Evers is assassinated

    After from returning from overseas being involved with the Military, he was involved with the segration at Mississippi College. After coming back from President Keddneys speech he was shot in the back of the head. When he was taken to the hospital, the nurses refused to take care of him because of his skin color.
  • "I Have a Dream" Speech is given by Dr. King

    Martin Luther King Jr. gave this speech to inform that one day blacks will have the same rights as whites. He looked on the brighter side of life and hoped one day this his dream would come true. He also wanted to remind how poorly the black were being treated.
  • Freedom Summer project begins

    This was a project that attempted to get as many African American voters, but excluded blacks from voting. This was to set up freedom schools. freedom houses, and freedom communities in Mississippi.
  • Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, and James Chaney are reported missing in Mississippi

    After all three were arrested by the police they were sent to jail for several hours. When they were released they were released to the KKK. The KKK beat and murdered them. The court said the KKK and members of the Neshoba County law enforcement killed the men.
  • Malcom X is assassinated

    When Malcom X was preparing for an Afro- American Unity, out of the 400 people someone caused disturbance. That person ended put shooting Malcom X in the chest.
  • De Facto degregation and De jure segregation is recognized

    De Facto was simply discrimination that was not segregation by law. (De Jure) Stated that blacks should not ride the bus if a white person does not have a seat.
  • Black Panther Party emegres

    The Black Panther party was a revolutionary socialist organization that was an involvment in the Black Power movement. This was the greatest threat to internal security counry. This was only a group of 27 people.
  • Voting Rights Act is passed

    This prohibits discrimination in voting. It also prohibits any state or local government from imposing any voting law. The act also contain a speical provisions.
  • Kerner Commission is established

    Thi swas established to investigate race riots. It was also to provide recommendations fro the future. Lyndon B Johnson appointed the commission, the rioting was still happening in Detroit.
  • Dr. King is assassinated

    While King was standing on the balcony he was shot. The bullet entered through his cheek and broke his jaw. Shortly afer a witness saw James Earl Ray fleeing from a room. When he was rushed to the hospital the doctors opened his chest and did Cardiopulmary resuscitation.
