  • Brown Vs. Board of Education

    Brown Vs. Board of Education
    New leader of Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren stated that the segregated schools were not equal.
  • Emmitt Till

    Emmitt Till
    14 year-old African American Emmitt Till is brutally beaten to death for whistling at a white woman the two white men who were accused were found not guilty for the crime but later admitting to it.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to get out of the seat she was sitting in when a white man asked for that spot. This initially started the civil rights movement.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    Nine African American students were blocked by a white mob, and were unable to enter Central High School. This caused President Eisenhower to send in Federal Paratroopers to escort the girls into the school.
  • Sit-In

    Sit-In
    Four black College students started a sit-in when they walked Woolworths Store and sat at the whites only counter.
  • President Kennedy issued Executive Order 10925

    President Kennedy issued Executive Order 10925
    President Kennedy passed an order saying that federal government can’t choose to not hire someone due to race.

    President Kennedy was elected promising that the Civil Rights Legislation would pass.
  • Freedom Riders

    A group of activists called the “freedom riders” would ride whites-only terminals but would normally be greeted with violence.
  • James Merideth

    James Merideth
    James Meredith becomes the first African at the University of Mississippi. President Kennedy had to send in 5,000 federal officers to contain the violence.

    Martin Luther King Junior gives his "I have a Dream Speech" while he marchs on Washington
  • 4 African Girls killed

    4 African Girls killed
    Four girls were killed by a Ku Klux Klan member, who bombed a Baptist church in Alabama.

    John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Not being able to pass most civil rights laws.

     Malcom X Assassinated
    Malcom X was assassinated during Afro-American Unity rally, he was assassinated be a rival muslim group.

    Peaceful black protesters were marching from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery and were greeted clubs, teargas, and bull whips and forced back to Selma. This day is now known as Bloody Sunday.
