The flag was changed to represent the confederate battle flag in the Ciivil War. Many people believed it was a sign of racial protest after Brown V. Board of Education. -

The signafigance of the Montgomery bus boycott was that the U.S Supreme Court ruled segregation on public buses unconsititutional. -
SCLC
SCLC was an African American Civil Rights organization which supported non-violent protests. -
SNCC
SNCC was an organization that gave younger blacks (college students) more of a voice in the Civil Rights movement. They played a large role in the freedom riders and sit-ins. -
Albany Movement
Thk signafigance of the Albany movement was that from MLK's point of view he felt as if the movement was a failure, but he did learn important lessons that he and the SCLC would bring to Birmingham. -
March on Washington
The March on Washington is when thousands of people gathered in Washington and MLK delivered his famous "I have a dream" speech.
The march was a successful in pressuring JFK to pass the Civil Rights BIll. -
Civil Rights Act
The Civil Rights Act ended public segregation and banned employment discrimation. Congress later expanded the act and allowed African Americans to vote. -
Mephis Sanitation Strike
At the end of this strike MLK was assassined. The result of the strike was that the wages were increased. It was also a turning point for black activism.
