    The Beginning and end of Brown vs. Board of Education

    60 years after Brown vs. Board of Education(video) The Brown vs. Board of Education case did not end as soon as it was started. It took years of arguing and voting. Eventually all the hard work paid off and the Court overturned Plessy v Ferguson, ending racial segragation in the schools. Sixty years later, schools have increased in diversity of many colors.

Board of Education case was a case where Linda Brown,age 7,from Topeka, Kansas,wanted to attend an all white school that was close by instead of her old achool that was a mile away. She was denied because the schools were segragated.The court believed in "seperate but equal" although whites and blacks were seperate, they were definetly not equal.Oliver Brown, father of Linda, insisted that segragation in Kansas disregared The Equal Rights Protection Clause.Soon after,we were equal

    Montgomery Bus Boycott: Ending

    After about a year of hard work, African Americans got integration after the court agreeing that racially segragating seating opposed the 14th Amendment. However, this victory came with a price. Snipers often shattered the bus windows, black churches were bombed,and MLK himself got his house bombed. The bombers got arrested and were found to be members of the KKK.

    This was a boycott in which African Americans refused to ride the bus because of segragated seats. In the year of 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man. Because of this, she was put in jail. She was also fined with $14 dollars in total. Her bravery sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The goal was to end segragation on the bus. Dr Martin Luther King Jr was involved,helping it spread all throughout Alabama. African Americans did not ride the bus for a least a year.

    SCLC LEADERS
    The founders of the SCLC were Dr. Martin Luther king Jr, Joseph Lowery,Fred Shuttlesworth,Benyard Rustin, Ralph Abernathy and Coretta Scott KIng, Dr. King's wife. Its main purpose was to develop the cause of civil rights throughout America in a non-violent matter.
  • The SNCC

    The SNCC
    The SNCC or the Student Nonviolence Coordinating Committee, began when a group of black college students were told that they wouldn't be served. Refusing to leave, these students caused sit-ins in other colleges across North Carolina and to publizie the movement all across the country. Leaders sprouted from the SNCC such as Congressman John Lewis and NAACP chairman Julian Bond. This movement lasted 6 years.

    1961 – Admission of Charlayne Hunter & Hamilton Holmes into the University of Georgia
    Hamiltion Holmes and Charlayne Hunter where the first two African Americans to be admitted to UGA. After being denied of their education because of "limited space", they kept sending in applications in hope of getting accepted to the college. After being denied once again, they had enough. They filed a suit against the man who wouldn't accept them and finally got a chance to go because the court amitted that they weren't being accepted because of thier color.

    The Start to the End of Charlanye Hunter and Hamiltion Holmes at UGA

    In the year of 1963, Charlayne Hunter and Hamiltion Holmes were the first African Americans to graduate college.They got bricks, bottles, and fireworks thrown at thier dorms but they ended segragation and got their education. This was a big deal because African Americans weren't allowed in white schools and were too scared to stand up for themselves.Today, Charlayne Hunter is a journalist.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    Appointed by the Congress of Racial Equality, The Freedom Riders consisted of 13 African American and white civil rights activists and traveled in the south to integrate bus terminals. By doing this, the black people in the group tried to use white public facitlites and the whites of the group used the colored. Despite the violent assults of white protesters along the way, they got widespread attention. Lots of other freedom fighters joined the movement, prohibiting bus and train segragation.
  • The Albany Movement

    The Albany Movement
    A movement in which the NAACP, the SNCC, and the SCLC come together to end segragation in all of the country. Even though Dr King got involved in the movement, it was dailed by many people. However, it was a learning experience for him and they rest of the leaders. They helped desegragate Albany's facilities and resumed with their own movements.

    250,000 black and whites led this march in Washington D.C. protesting segragation and job discrimination against African Americans. This is were Martin Luther King Jr. made his famous "I Have a Dream," speech.

    This act provided protection for the minority community. against people that had prejudice practices against blacks.

    Dr Martin Luther King Jr was a Baptist Minister and a civil rights activist. Heheaded the SCLC ( Sothern Christian Leaders Committee) and participated in the Voting RIghts Act and the Civil RIghts act. His goal was to help end segragation for all races-especially black. He also participated in the March on Washington were he made his famous "I Have a Dream Speech."
