    Abraham Lincoln proposed that all African-Americans be free. The slave count in the south was around 3 milliion and activists around the world were pushing for this to change.     Plessy vs. Fergunson
    The laws made it so black and whites were "seperate but equal". They had seperate bathrooms, water fountains, and waiting rooms. This wasn't considered segregation because it did not violate the 14th ammendment.

    Jessie Owens in the Olympics

    Executive Order 8802
    July was a big time for the creation of Jobs. Many blacks came into the towns to start these jobs but were often diclined with violence. Roosevelt talked to Black leaders and issued Order 8802 which said, "There shall be no discrimination in the employment of workers in defense industries and in Government, because of race, creed, color, or national origin."
  • Jackie Robison Joins MLB

    Jackie Robison Joins MLB
    Jackie Robison was the first black man to join the all white MLB signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was soon rated one of the best as he acheived the Rookie of the Year and National League MVP. He also helped his team win the National Series. He retired with a .311 batting average.

    Brown vs. Board of Education
    Linda Brown had challenged the Board of Education with violating her rights to be in an all white school. She won and the supreme court stopped all segregation in schools. Though years later there wasn't much improvement as clans and other organizatins fought to stop the de-segregation.

    Emmit Till's Death
    While in a store, Emmit Till had taken the chance to talk to a white women. He was soon brutally murdured in the early hours of the morning by the womens huspand and brother.     Montgomery Bus Boycott
    This all happened when Rosa Parks refused to get from her seat for a white man. She was taken in to custody which is what started the main event. African Americans refused to ride the buses. This tore the bus system apart as the Blacks were most of the people riding the buses.     Little Rock nine
    This event refers to nine black students that started to attend a previous all white school. To stop this from actually happening, Governor Faubus put in the National Gaurd to stop them.     John F. Kennedy is elected president
    John F. Kennedy was in the race against Richard Nixon. JFK was good looking, a good talker, and looked good on television while Richard Nixon was tired and sickly. JFK won and was the youngest at the age of 43. He was also a catholic president.

    After the assasination of JFk in Dallas, Texas, Johnson was soon escorted to Air Force one, At the time he was vice president to JFk, but was soon inaugurated on the plane. During his presidency he followed what JFk was hopinng to do and put them in affect.

    The civil rights moventment ended discrimination. School segregation was ended which allowed blacks to finish high school and head to college. African-Americans also held their heads up in pride as they were confident in their racial identity.

    The day before, Dr. King Jr. had given his final speech saying that he his people may one day make it to the promise land, but he will not be there.
