    In April of 1865, the final surrenders of the Confederates were made. They knew they had lost when there seemed as if there was no way out. Soldiers were beiginning to desert, the supply of food had been cut, and there were thousands of deaths. So, they gave in to the power of the north. However, the discrimination of the blacks was just beginning.

    On this day in Pulaski, Tennessee, a group of former Confederate soldiers joined together to form the Ku Klux Klan. The KKK then eventually transformed into a terrorist group that hated races like blacks. The KKK is responsible for thousands of deaths and a loss in black and Republican political power.

    Rosa Parks refuses to give up seat
    On December 1st of 1955, black Alabama woman Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white man. This resulted in her arrest and a spark in the Civil Rights Movement. There were many resulting marches and protests.
