  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    The court case that decided things should be seperate but equal. this made many things segergated in the U.S. this case was eventually overtured by the brown v. the board.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    A case where it was challenged that seperate black and white scholls were not equal. The cases verdict decided that the schools were unequal and that segregated schools would be against the law.
  • Emmett Till is murdered

    A young black man visiting the south was killed by white men for talking the a white woman. The way he died showed the country how bad the rascism was in the south.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    African americans where unhappy with the segergation of buses in montgomery so they decided to boycott riding on the buses. After 11 months the government finally gave in and passed a law removing the segeration
  • Little rock school desegergation

    The school accepted 9 new black students with much protest. At the end of the yar the only senior out of the nine graduated and the scholl clsed for the folling year becuase of it.
  • Sit-ins in Greensboro

    African american students would go to public places to sit where it was not meant for them. They weren't cuasing any trouble but they were responded to with violence
  • March on Brmingham

    Young black civil rights supporters marched the streets of birmingham where they were arttack by police with water hoses.
  • March on Washington

    A group of a thousands of civil rights supporters gathered in washington to listen to speechs givin by civil rights leaders. This event lead to the passing of the civil rights act of 1964.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    This act was passed to make any kind of discrimination illeagel. This was motivated by the march on washington and gave many people more freedoms.
  • Voting rights Act of 1965

    Gave all african americans the right to vote
