  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    The United States Supreme Court decided that it was constitutional of state laws requiring racial segregation in public facilities under the statement, "separate but equal".
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    United States Supreme Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students unconstitutional. So blacks can now go to school with white people.
  • Emmett Till is muredered

    After Emmett Till was murdered, it showed how people in the south were. Till's mom had an open funeral so people can see how the left Emmett. Many magazines & news reporter were at the funreal which purposed propaganda.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    They started a boycott organization after what happen in the bus with Rosa Parks where she didn’t want to give up her seat for a white person so she got arrested. The court ruled that what the transportation companies were doing was unconstitutional so they changed the transportation rules.
  • Little Rock School desegregation

    9 African American teens attended a high school full of white people and at first the governor had the national guard to prevent them from entering but then the president spoke with him so the governor remove the militia and just had some local policemen to protect the 9 teens from entering the school.
  • Sit-ins in Greensboro/Nashville

    African Americans all over the south went to bars dinner, etc. and sat on the counter seats where they weren’t suppose to sit on. They got arrested but soon white business were loosing money so they change the rules of the counter seats which gave blacks the opportunity to seat there.
  • March on Washington

    Martin Luteher King gave a speech in Washington D.C with over 200,000 people mixed with blacks and white. This opened many people's eyes because King stated that everyone should be treated eqaul. This speech was so huge that the Civil Rights Act was passed.
  • March on Birmingham

    Birmingham, Alabama was important in 1963 because it served as one of the strongest footholds in the civil right movement. The arresting of Martin Luther King, Jr. would set the tone for the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.
  • Civil Rights Act

    This act now made all forms of discrimintation illegal. It was motivated by the March on Washingston, which put pressure on the government to finally pass such legistation.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    The act bannned racial discrimination in voting practices by the federal government as well as by state and local governments.
  • Martin Luther King Assassinated

    This just showed how cruel people were in his great speeches.
