  • End of White Primary in Gerogia

    In October 1945, a federal court said that Georgia's white state primary was unconstitutional. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the descision in 1946. This was a good descision.
  • The 1946 Govenor's race

    Arnold could not run again. Eugene Talmadge could run for Govenor. First election since end of white primary.
  • Founding of SNCC

    This is a group of concerned students. They protested without using violence. It was headquartered in atlanta.
  • The Albany Movement

    MLK helped with this movement. This movement was a failure. They put people in jail all around.
  • Admission of Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter into UGA

    First two African American students on campus. They tried to apply earlier but they were denied. They wrote a letter to the president and they were admitted.
  • The March on Washington

    They marched for jobs and freedom. It was led by MLK. It had 200,000 to 300,000 participants.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    This was a landmark piece of legislation. It outlawed major forms of discrimination. It also outlawed discrimination of women.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    The supreme court said that some of the rulings are unfair. They said that the Grandfather Clause violated the 15th amendment. Whites wouldn't sell their homes to blacks.
  • Election of Maynard Jackson

    Elected in 1973. Served third term in 1990. He was the first black to sere as mayor in south east.
